1*The avision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem aain the days of bUzziah, cJotham, dAhaz, and eHezekiah, kings of Judah.
2fHear, O heavens, and ggive ear, O earth:
For the Lord hath spoken,
I have ggnourished and brought up children,
And they have rebelled against me.
3hThe ox knoweth his owner,
And the ass his master’s icrib:
My people ldoth not consider.
4Ah sinful nation, a people †laden with iniquity,
mA seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters:
They have forsaken the Lord,
They have nprovoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger,
They are †gone away backward.
5oWhy should ye be stricken any more?
Ye will †revolt more and more:
The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
6From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no psoundness in it;
But qwounds, and qrbruises, and sputrifying sores:
They have not been closed, neither bound up, neither tmollified with ||ointment.
7uYour country is desolate,
Your cities are burned with fire:
Your land, strangers devour it in your presence,
And it is desolate, †as overthrown by strangers.
8And the daughter of Zion is left vas a cottage in a vineyard,
As vva lodge win a garden of cucumbers,
As a besieged city.
9xExcept the Lord of hosts had left unto us ya very small remnant,
We should have been as zSodom,
And we should have been like unto zGomorrah.
10Hear the word of the Lord, ye arulers of bSodom;
Give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
11To what purpose is cthe multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the Lord:
I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts;
And I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of †he goats.
12When ye come †dto appear before me,
eWho hath required this at your hand, to tread fmy courts?
13Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me;
ghThe new moons and gsabbaths, the calling of assemblies, iI cannot away with;
It is ||iniquity, even kthe solemn meeting.
14Your hnew moons and your lappointed feasts my soul hateth:
They are ma trouble unto me;
nI am weary to bear them.
15And owhen ye spread forth your hands, pI will hide mine eyes from you:
Yea, when ye †make many prayers, I will not hear:
qYour hands are full of †blood.
16rWash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; scease to do evil;
17Learn to do well;
tuSeek judgment, ||relieve the oppressed,
tJudge vthe fatherless, plead for vthe widow.
18Come now, and wlet us reason together, saith the Lord:
Though your sins be as scarlet, xthey shall be as white as snow;
Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
20But if ye refuse and rebel,
Ye shall be devoured with the sword:
yFor the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
21How is the faithful city zbecome an harlot!
It was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it;
But now murderers.
22aThy silver is become dross,
bThy wine mixed with water:
23cThy princes are rebellious, and dcompanions of thieves:
Every one eloveth gifts, and followeth after rewards:
fThey judge not the fatherless,
Neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
24Therefore saith gthe Lord, the Lord of hosts, hthe mighty One of Israel,
Ah, I will iease me of mine adversaries,
And kavenge me of mine enemies:
25And I will lturn my hand upon thee,
And †purely mpurge away athy dross,
And take away all thy tin:
26And I will restore thy judges nas at the first,
And thy counsellers as at the beginning:
Afterward thou shalt be called,
The city of righteousness, othe faithful city.
27Zion shall be redeemed with judgment,
And ||her converts with righteousness.
28And pthe †qdestruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together,
And they that rforsake the Lord shall be consumed.
29For they shall be sashamed of tthe oaks which ye have desired,
And ye shall be confounded for uthe gardens that ye have chosen.
30For ye shall be as van oak whose leaf fadeth,
And as ua garden that hath no water.
31And the strong shall be xas tow,
||And the maker of it as a spark,
And ythey shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.
2The word that aIsaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2aaAnd it shall come to pass bin the last days,
That cthe mountain of the Lord’s house shall be ||destablished in the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And efall nations shall flow unto it.
3And many people shall go and say,
gCome ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
And he will hteach us of his ways,
And we will walk in his paths:
For iout of Zion shall go forth the law,
And fthe word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4And he shall judge among the nations,
And shall rebuke many people:
And kthey shall beat their swords into lplowshares,
kAnd their spears into ||mpruninghooks:
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
nNeither shall they learn war any more.
5O house of Jacob, come ye,
And let us owalk in the light of the Lord.
6Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob,
Because they be replenished ||pfrom the east,
And are qsoothsayers rlike the Philistines,
And they ||splease themselves in the children of strangers.
7Their land also is tfull of silver and gold,
Neither is there any end of their treasures;
Their land is also ufull of horses,
Neither is there any end of their chariots:
8Their land also is vfull of widols;
They worship the work of their own hands,
That which their own fingers have made:
9And xthe mean man boweth down,
And xthe great man yhumbleth himself:
Therefore forgive them not.
10zEnter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust,
zaFor fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty.
11bThe lofty looks of man shall be humbled,
And the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down,
And cthe Lord alone shall be exalted din that day.
12For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is eproud and lofty,
And upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be ebrought low:
13And upon all fthe cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up,
And upon all gthe oaks of Bashan,
14And hupon all the high mountains,
And hupon all the hills that are lifted up,
15And upon every high tower,
And upon every fenced wall,
16And upon all ithe ships of Tarshish,
And upon all †pleasant pictures.
17And jthe loftiness of man shall be bowed down,
And the haughtiness of men shall be made low:
And the Lord alone shall be exalted jin that day.
18And k||the widols he shall utterly abolish.
19And lthey shall go into the mholes of the rocks,
And into the caves of †the earth,
lFor fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty,
When he ariseth nto shake terribly the earth.
20dIn that day oa man shall cast †his widols of silver, and his widols of gold,
||Which they made each one for himself to worship,
To the moles and to pthe bats;
21lTo go into qthe clefts of the rocks,
And into rthe tops of the ragged rocks,
lFor fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty,
When he ariseth nto shake terribly the earth.
22sCease ye from man, twhose breath is in his nostrils:
For wherein is he to be accounted of?
3For, behold, athe Lord, the Lord of hosts,
bDoth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah cthe stay and the staff,
The whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,
2dThe mighty man, and the man of war,
The judge, and the prophet, and ethe prudent, and the ancient,
3The captain of fifty, and †the honourable man,
And the counseller, and fthe cunning artificer, and the ||eloquent orator.
4And hI will give children to be their princes,
And ibabes shall rule over them.
5And the people shall be joppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour:
The child shall kbehave himself proudly against the ancient,
And the base against the honourable.
6When la man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying,
Thou hast clothing, be thou our mruler,
And let this nruin be under thy hand:
7oIn that day shall he †swear, saying,
I will not be an †healer;
For in my house is neither bread nor clothing:
Make me not a mruler of the people.
8For Jerusalem nis ruined, and Judah is fallen:
Because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord,
pTo provoke the eyes of his glory.
9The shew of their countenance doth witness against them;
And they qdeclare their sin ras Sodom, they hide it not.
Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
10Say ye to the righteous, sthat it shall be twell with him:
For uthey shall eat the fruit of their doings.
11Woe unto the wicked! vit shall be ill with him:
For wthe reward of his hands shall be †given him.
12As for my people, hchildren are their joppressors,
And women rule over them.
O my people, ||they which lead thee cause thee to err,
And †destroy the way of thy paths.
13The Lord xstandeth up yto plead,
And standeth to judge the people.
14The Lord zwill enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof:
For ye have ||eaten up athe vineyard;
The spoil of the poor is in your houses.
15What mean ye that ye bbeat my people to pieces,
And grind the faces of the poor?
Saith the Lord God of hosts.
16Moreover the Lord saith,
cBecause dthe daughters of Zion are haughty,
And walk with stretched forth necks and †wanton eyes,
Walking and ||mincing as they go,
And emaking a tinkling with their feet:
17Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of dthe daughters of Zion,
And the Lord will †fdiscover their secret parts.
18gIn that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their etinkling ornaments about their feet,
And htheir ||cauls, and their iround tires like the moon,
19The ||chains, and the bracelets, and the ||mufflers,
20kThe bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and lthe headbands,
And the †tablets, and mthe earrings,
21nThe rings, and onose jewels,
22pThe changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles,
And qthe wimples, and rthe crisping pins,
23rrThe glasses, and sthe fine linen,
And tthe hoods, and uthe vails.
24And it shall come to pass, that…
