Psalm 39
To the chief Musician, even to *Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.
1I said, I will atake heed to my ways,
That bI sin not with my tongue:
I will keep †cmy mouth with a bridle,
While the wicked is before me.
2dI was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even ddfrom good;
And my sorrow was †stirred.
3eMy heart was hot within me,
While I was fmusing the fire burned:
Then spake I with my tongue,
4Lord, gMake me to know mine end,
And the measure of my days, what it is;
That I may know ||how hfrail I am.
5Behold, thou hast made my days as an ihandbreadth;
And kmine lage is as nothing before thee:
mVerily every man †at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
6Surely every man walketh in †a vain shew:
mSurely they nare disquieted in vain:
oHe heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
7And now, Lord, what wait I for?
pMy hope is in thee.
8Deliver me from all my transgressions:
qMake me not the reproach of the foolish.
9rI was dumb, I opened not my mouth;
sBecause thou didst it.
10tRemove thy stroke away from me:
I am consumed by the †blow of thine hand.
11When thou with urebukes dost correct man for iniquity,
wThou makest †his beauty to consume away xlike a moth:
ySurely every man is vanity. Selah.
12yyHear my prayer, O Lord,
And give ear unto my cry;
zHold not thy peace at my tears:
For I am a astranger with thee,
And aa sojourner, bas all my fathers were.
13O cspare me, that I may drecover strength,
eBefore I go hence, and be no more.
Psalm 40
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
1I †awaited patiently for the Lord;
And he inclined unto me, and bheard my cry.
2He brought me up also out of †an horrible pit, out of the cmiry dclay,
And eset my feet upon a rock, and festablished my goings.
3And he hath put ga new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God:
Many shall hsee it, and hfear, and shall itrust in the Lord.
4kBlessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust,
And respecteth not lthe proud, nor such as mturn aside to lies.
5Many, O Lord my God, are nthy wonderful works which thou hast done,
And othy thoughts which are to us-ward:
||They cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee:
If I would declare and speak of them,
pThey are more than can be numbered.
6qSacrifice and offering thou didst not desire;
Mine ears hast thou †opened:
Burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
7Then said I, Lo, I come:
In the rvolume of the book it is swritten of me,
8I delight to do tthy will, O my God:
Yea, thy law is †uwithin my heart.
9I have preached righteousness win the great congregation:
Lo, xI have not yrefrained my lips,
O Lord, zthou knowest.
10I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart;
I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation:
I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from uthe great congregation.
11yWithhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord:
Let athy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
12For innumerable evils have bcompassed me about:
cMine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up;
ccThey are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore dmy heart †faileth me.
13Be pleased, O Lord, eto deliver me:
O Lord, fmake haste to help me.
14gLet them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it;
Let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
15Let them be hdesolate for a reward of their shame
That isay unto me, Aha, aha.
16Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee:
Let such as love thy salvation ksay continually, lThe Lord be magnified.
17But mI am poor and needy; yet nthe Lord thinketh upon me:
Thou art my help and my deliverer;
Make no tarrying, O my God.
Psalm 41
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
1aBlessed is he that considereth ||the poor:
The Lord will bdeliver him †in time of trouble.
2The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive;
And he shall be blessed upon the earth:
And ||thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
3The Lord will bbstrengthen him upon the bed of languishing:
Thou wilt †make all his bed in his sickness.
4I said, Lord, cbe merciful unto me:
dHeal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
5Mine enemies speak evil of me,
When shall he die, and his name perish?
6And if he come to see me, he espeaketh vanity:
His heart gathereth iniquity to itself;
When he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
7All that hate me whisper together against me:
Against me do they devise †my hurt.
8†An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him:
And now that he flieth he shall rise up no more.
9gYea, †mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted,
hWhich did eat of my bread,
Hath †lifted up his heel against me.
10But thou, O Lord, cbe merciful unto me,
And raise me up, that I may requite them.
11By this I know that thou favourest me,
Because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
12And as for me, ithou upholdest me in mine integrity,
And settest me before thy face for ever.
13kBlessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. lAmen, and Amen.
