Psalm 37
A Psalm of David.
1aFret not thyself because of evildoers,
Neither bbe thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2For they shall soon cbe cut down dlike the grass,
And wither as the green herb.
3eTrust in the Lord, and do good;
So shalt thou dwell in the land, and †verily eethou shalt be fed.
4fDelight thyself also in the Lord;
And ghe shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5†hCommit thy way unto the Lord;
eTrust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6And ihe shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light,
And thy judgment as jthe noonday.
7†Rest in the Lord, and kwait patiently for him:
aFret not thyself because of him lwho prospereth in his way,
Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
8mCease from anger, and forsake wrath:
aFret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9mmFor evildoers shall be cut off:
But those that wait upon the Lord, they shall ninherit the earth.
10For oyet a little while, and the wicked shall not be:
Yea, thou shalt diligently consider phis place, and it shall not be.
11But qthe meek shall ninherit the earth;
And shall fdelight themselves in the abundance of peace.
12The wicked ||plotteth against the just,
And rgnasheth upon him with his teeth.
13sThe Lord shall laugh at him:
For he seeth that this day is coming.
14The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have ubent their bow,
To cast down wthe poor and needy,
And to slay †such as be of upright conversation.
15Their sword shall enter into their own heart,
And xtheir bows shall be broken.
16yA little that a righteous man hath
Is better than zthe riches of many wicked.
17For athe arms of the wicked shall be broken:
But the Lord bupholdeth the righteous.
18The Lord cknoweth the days of the upright:
And dtheir inheritance shall be for ever.
19They shall not be ashamed in the evil time:
And ein the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20But the wicked shall perish,
And the enemies of the Lord shall be as †the fat of lambs:
They shall consume; finto smoke shall they consume away.
21The wicked gborroweth, and payeth not again:
But the righteous hsheweth mercy, and hgiveth.
22iFor such as be blessed of him jshall inherit the earth;
And they that be cursed of him jshall be cut off.
23kThe steps of a good man are ||ordered by the Lord:
And he delighteth in his way.
24lThough he fall, he shall not be mutterly cast down:
For the Lord bupholdeth him with his hand.
25I have been young, and now am old;
Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor mmhis seed nbegging bread.
26oHe is †ever merciful, and lendeth;
And his seed is blessed.
27pDepart from evil, and do good;
And qdwell for evermore.
28For the Lord rloveth judgment,
And forsaketh not his ssaints;
They are preserved for ever:
But tthe seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29The righteous jshall inherit the land,
And qdwell therein for ever.
30The mouth of the righteous uspeaketh wisdom,
And his utongue talketh of judgment.
31xThe law of his God is in his heart;
None of his ||steps shall yslide.
32The wicked zwatcheth the righteous,
And seeketh to slay him.
33The Lord will not leave him in his hand,
Nor acondemn him when he is judged.
34bWait on the Lord, and keep his way,
And he shall exalt thee cto inherit the land:
dWhen the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
35eI have seen the wicked fin great power,
And spreading himself like ||ga green bay tree.
36Yet hhe passed away, and, lo, ihe was not:
Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
37Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright:
For the end of that man is kpeace.
38But the transgressors shall be destroyed together:
lThe end of the wicked shall be cut off.
39But mthe salvation of the righteous is of the Lord:
He is their strength nin the time of trouble.
40And the Lord shall help them, and odeliver them:
He shall deliver them from the wicked,
And save them, because they ptrust in him.
Psalm 38
A Psalm of David, *to bring to remembrance.
1O aLord, rebuke me not in thy wrath:
Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
2For bthine arrows stick fast in me,
And cthy hand presseth me sore.
3There is dno soundness in my flesh because of thine anger;
Neither is there any †rest in emy bones because of my sin.
4For fmine iniquities are gone over mine head:
As an heavy burden they are too gheavy for me.
5My hwounds stink and are corrupt
Because of my foolishness.
6I am †troubled; I am ibowed down greatly;
kI go imourning all the day long.
7For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease:
And there is dno soundness in my flesh.
8I am feeble and lsore broken:
I have mroared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
9Lord, all my desire is before thee;
And nmy groaning is not hid from thee.
10My heart panteth, my strength faileth me:
As for othe light of mine eyes, it also †is gone from me.
11pMy lovers and my friends qstand aloof from my †sore;
And ||my rkinsmen sstand afar off.
12They also that seek after my life tlay snares for me:
And they that seek my hurt tspeak umischievous things,
And imagine xdeceits all the day long.
13But yI, as a deaf man, heard not;
And I was zas a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
14yThus I was as a man that heareth not,
And in whose mouth are no areproofs.
15For ||in thee, O Lord, do I hope:
Thou wilt ||hear, O Lord my God.
16For I said, Hear me, blest otherwise they should rejoice over me:
When cmy foot slippeth, they dmagnify themselves against me.
And my sorrow is continually before me.
18For fI will declare mine iniquity;
gI will be sorry for my sin.
19But mine enemies †are hlively, and they are strong:
And they that hate me iwrongfully are multiplied.
20They also that krender evil for good lare mine adversaries;
mBecause I follow the thing that good is.
21Forsake me not, O Lord:
O my God, nbe not far from me.
22Make haste †to help me,
O Lord omy salvation.
Psalm 39
To the chief Musician, even to *Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.
1I said, I will atake heed to my ways,
That bI sin not with my tongue:
I will keep †cmy mouth with a bridle,
While the wicked is before me.
2dI was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even ddfrom good;
And my sorrow was †stirred.
3eMy heart was hot within me,
While I was fmusing the fire burned:
Then spake I with my tongue,
4Lord, gMake me to know mine end,
And the measure of my days, what it is;
That I may know ||how hfrail I am.
5Behold, thou hast made my days as an ihandbreadth;
And kmine lage is as nothing before thee:
mVerily every man †at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
6Surely every man walketh in †a vain shew:
mSurely they nare disquieted in vain:
oHe heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
7And now, Lord, what wait I for?
pMy hope is in thee.
8Deliver me from all my transgressions:
qMake me not the reproach of the foolish.
9rI was dumb, I opened not my mouth;
sBecause thou didst it.
10tRemove thy stroke away from me:
I am consumed by the †blow of thine hand.
11When thou with urebukes dost correct man for iniquity,
wThou makest †his beauty to consume away xlike a moth:
ySurely every man is vanity. Selah.
12yyHear my prayer, O Lord,
And give ear unto my cry;
zHold not thy peace at my tears:
For I am a astranger with thee,
And aa sojourner, bas all my fathers were.
13O cspare me, that I may drecover strength,
eBefore I go hence, and be no more.
