Psalm LI.
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba.
aHave mercy upon me, O God, aaccording to thy lovingkindness:
According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies bblot out my transgressions.
2cWash me throughly from mine iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
3For dI acknowledge my transgressions:
And my sin is eever before me.
4fAgainst thee, thee only, have I sinned,
And done this evil gin thy sight:
hThat thou mightest be justified when thou speakest,
And be clear when thou judgest.
5Behold, iI was shapen in iniquity;
And in sin did my mother conceive me.
6Behold, thou desirest truth jin the inward parts:
And in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7kPurge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:
cWash me, and lI shall be whiter than snow.
8Make me to hear joy and gladness;
That mthe bones which thou hast nbroken may rejoice.
9oHide thy face from my sins,
And bblot out all mine iniquities.
10Create in me pa clean heart, O God;
And qrenew a rright spirit within me.
11sCast me not away tfrom thy presence;
And take not uthy holy Spirit from me.
12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
And uphold me with thy wfree spirit.
13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways;
And sinners shall be xconverted unto thee.
14Deliver me from ybloodguiltiness, O God, thou zGod of my salvation:
And amy tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15O Lord, open thou my lips;
And my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16For thou bdesirest not sacrifice; else would I give it:
Thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17The sacrifices of God are a cbroken spirit:
A cbroken and a dcontrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18eDo good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:
fBuild thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19Then shalt thou be bpleased with gthe sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and hwhole burnt offering:
Then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
Psalm LII.
To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech.
Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O amighty man?
The goodness of God endureth continually.
2bThy tongue deviseth cmischiefs;
dLike a sharp rasor, ddworking deceitfully.
3Thou lovest evil more than good;
And lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
4Thou lovest all devouring words,
O thou deceitful tongue.
5God shall likewise destroy thee for ever,
He shall take thee away, and epluck thee out of thy dwelling place,
And root thee out of fthe land of the living. Selah.
6The righteous also shall gsee, and gfear,
And hshall laugh at him:
7Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength;
But itrusted in the abundance of his riches,
And strengthened himself in his cwickedness.
8But I am like ka green olive tree in the house of God:
I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
9I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it:
And I will wait on thy name; lfor it is good before mthy saints.
Psalm LIII.
To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David.
aThe fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.
Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity:
bThere is none that doeth good.
2God looked down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there were bany that did understand, that did seek God.
3bEvery one of them is cgone back, they are altogether become filthy;
There is none that doeth good, no, not one.
4Have dthe workers of iniquity no knowledge?
Who eat up my people as they eat bread:
They have not called upon God.
5There were they in great fear, ewhere no fear was:
fFor God hath ghscattered hthe bones of him that encampeth against thee:
Thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
6O that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion!
When God bringeth back the captivity of his people,
Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
