3What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2Much every way: chiefly, because that aunto them were committed bthe oracles of God. 3For cwhat if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make dthe faith of God without effect? 4eGod forbid: yea, let fGod be true, but gevery man a liar; as it is written, hThat thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. 5But if our unrighteousness icommend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? k(I speak as a man) 6eGod forbid: for then lhow shall God judge the world? 7For if mthe truth of God hath more abounded through mmy lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? 8And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) nLet us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
9What then? oare we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before †proved both pJews and qGentiles, that rthey are all under sin; 10As it is written, sThere is none righteous, no, not one: 11There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12They are all gone out of the way, they are together tbecome unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13uTheir throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; xthe poison of asps is under their lips: 14yWhose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15zaTheir feet are swift to shed blood: 16Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17And the way of peace have they not known: 18bThere is no fear of God before their eyes. 19Now we know that what things soever cthe law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that devery mouth may be stopped, and eall the world may become ||guilty before God. 20fTherefore gby the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for hby the law is the knowledge of sin.
21But now ithe righteousness of God jwithout the law is manifested, being witnessed by klthe law and lmthe prophets; 22Even the righteousness of God which is nby faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for othere is no difference: 23For eall have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24Being justified pfreely qby his grace rthrough the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath ||sset forth tto be a propitiation through faith uin his blood, wto declare his righteousness for the ||remission of xsins that are past, through the yforbearance of God; 26wTo declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27zWhere is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? aof works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28Therefore we bconclude cthat a man is justified by faith dwithout the deeds of the law. 29Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 30Seeing eit is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and funcircumcision through faith. 31Do we then make void the law through faith? gGod forbid: yea, hwe establish the law.
4What shall we say then that Abraham aour father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2For if Abraham were bjustified by works, he hath cwhereof to glory; dbut not before God. 3For what saith the scripture? eAbraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4Now fto him that worketh is the reward not greckoned of grace, but of debt. 5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, hhis faith is gcounted for righteousness. 6Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God gimputeth righteousness iwithout works, 7Saying, jBlessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 8Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. 9Cometh this blessedness then upon kthe circumcision lonly, or upon kthe uncircumcision also? for ewe say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. 10How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 11And he received mthe sign of circumcision, na seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that ohe might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: 12And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. 13For the promise, that he should be the pheir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 14For qif they which are of the law be heirs, faith is rmade void, and qthe promise made of none effect: 15Because sthe law worketh wrath: for twhere no law is, uthere is no transgression. 16Therefore it is of faith, that it might be xby grace; yto the end the promise might be sure zto all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; awho is the father of us all, 17(As it is written, bI have made thee a father of many nations,) ||before him whom he believed, even God, cwho quickeneth the dead, and calleth dthose things which be not as though they were. 18Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, eSo shall thy seed be. 19And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now fdead, gwhen he was about an hundred years old, neither yet hthe deadness of Sara’s womb: 20He istaggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21And kbeing fully persuaded that, what he had promised, lhe was able also to perform. 22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23Now mit was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe non him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25oWho was delivered for our offences, and pwas raised again for our qjustification.
5Therefore abeing justified by faith, we have bpeace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2By whom also cwe have access by faith into this grace dwherein we stand, and erejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3fAnd not only so, but gwe eglory in tribulations also: hknowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4And patience, iexperience; and iexperience, hope: 5And jhope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God kis shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 6For when we were yet without strength, ||in due time lChrist died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8But God mcommendeth nhis love toward us, in that, owhile we were yet sinners, lChrist died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified oby his blood, pwe shall be saved from wrath through him. 10For if, qwhen we were enemies, rwe were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by shis life. 11fAnd not only so, but we also ejoy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the ||atonement.
12Wherefore, as tby one man sin entered into the world, and udeath by sin; and so death passed upon zall men, ||vfor that all have sinned: 13(For until the law sin was in the world: but wsin is not imputed when there is no law. 14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of xAdam’s transgression, ywho is the figure of him that was to come. 15But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one zmany be dead, much more athe grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto zbmany. 16And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto cjustification. 17For if ||by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18Therefore as ||by dthe offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so ||by dthe crighteousness of one the free gift came upon zeall men unto fjustification of life. 19For as by one man’s disobedience zmany were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall bzmany be made righteous. 20Moreover gthe law hentered, that the offence might abound. But iwhere sin abounded, jgrace did much more abound: 21That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might kgrace reign through righteousness unto leternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
6What shall we say then? aShall we continue in sin, that bgrace may abound? 2cGod forbid. How shall we, that dare dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3Know ye not, that eso many of us as ||were baptized finto Jesus Christ ||were gbaptized into his death? 4Therefore we are hburied with him by baptism into death: that like as iChrist was raised up from the dead by kthe glory of the Father, even so lwe also should walk in newness of life. 5For mif we have been nplanted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6Knowing this, that oour old man pis crucified with him, that qthe body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7For rhe that is dead is †sfreed from sin. 8Now tif we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9Knowing that uChrist being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10For in that he died, whe died unto sin xonce: but in that he liveth, he yliveth unto God. 11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be zdead indeed unto…
