Psalm 42
*To the chief Musician, ||Maschil, *for †the sons of Korah.
1As the hart †panteth after athe water brooks,
So panteth my soul after thee, O God.
2bMy soul thirsteth for God, for cthe living God:
When shall I come and ccappear before God?
3dMy tears have been my meat day and night,
eWhile they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
4When I remember these things, fI pour out my soul in me:
For I had gone with the multitude, I gwent with them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.
5hWhy art thou †cast down, O my soul? and hwhy art thou idisquieted in me?
jHope thou in God: for I shall yet ||kpraise him
||For the help of his countenance.
6O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee
lFrom the land of Jordan, and of the mHermonites, from ||the hill Mizar.
7nDeep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy owaterspouts:
pAll thy qwaves and thy billows are gone over me.
8Yet the Lord will rcommand his lovingkindness in the daytime,
And sin the night his song shall be with me,
And my prayer unto the God of my life.
9I will say unto God tmy rock, Why hast thou forgotten me?
uWhy go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
10As with a ||sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me;
eWhile they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?
11xWhy art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him,
Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Psalm 43
1aJudge me, O God, and bplead my cause against an ||ungodly nation:
O deliver me †from the deceitful and unjust man.
2For thou art cthe God of my strength: why dost thou dcast me off?
eWhy go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
3O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me;
Let them bring me unto fthy holy hill, and to ffthy tabernacles.
4Then will I go unto the altar of God,
Unto God †my exceeding joy:
Yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.
5gWhy art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope in God: for I shall yet praise him,
Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Psalm 44
To the chief Musician for *the sons of Korah, Maschil.
1We have heard with our ears, O God,
aOur fathers have told us,
What work thou didst in their days, in bthe times of old.
2How thou didst cdrive out the heathen with thy hand, and dplantedst them;
How thou didst afflict the people, and ecast them out.
3For they got not the land in possession fby their own sword,
Neither did their own arm save them:
But thy right hand, and thine arm, and ffthe light of thy countenance,
gBecause thou hadst a favour unto them.
4hThou art my King, O God:
iCommand deliverances for Jacob.
5Through thee will we kpush down our enemies:
Through thy name will we ltread them under that rise up against us.
6For mI will not trust fin my bow,
Neither shall my sword save me.
7But thou hast saved us from our enemies,
And hast nput them to shame that hated us.
8oIn God we boast all the day long,
And praise thy name for ever. Selah.
9But thou hast pcast off, and put us to shame;
And qgoest not forth with our armies.
10Thou makest us to rturn back from the enemy:
And they which hate us spoil for themselves.
11sThou hast given us †like sheep appointed for meat;
And hast tscattered us among the heathen.
12uThou sellest thy people †for nought,
And dost not increase thy wealth by their xprice.
13Thou ymakest us zaa reproach to our neighbours,
aA scorn and a abderision to them that are round about us.
14Thou makest us ca byword among the heathen,
dA shaking of the head among the people.
15My confusion is continually before me,
And ethe shame of my face hath covered me,
16For the voice of him that reproacheth and fblasphemeth;
By reason of gthe enemy and avenger.
17hAll this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee,
Neither have we idealt falsely in thy covenant.
18Our heart is not kturned back,
Neither have our ||steps ldeclined from thy way;
19Though thou hast msore broken us in the place of ndragons,
And covered us with othe shadow of death.
20If we have forgotten the name of our God,
Or pstretched out our hands to qa strange god;
21Shall not rGod search this out?
For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
22Yea, sfor thy sake are we killed all the day long;
We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
23tAwake, why sleepest thou, O Lord?
Arise, ucast us not off for ever.
24wWherefore hidest thou thy face,
And forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
25For xour soul is bowed down to the dust:
Our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
26Arise †for our help,
And redeem us for thy mercies’ sake.
Psalm 45
To the chief Musician *upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, ||Maschil, A Song of †loves.
1My heart †is inditing a good matter:
I speak of the things which I have made touching the king:
My tongue is the apen of ba ready writer.
2Thou art fairer than the children of men:
cGrace is poured into thy lips:
Therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
3dGird thy sword eupon thy thigh, fO most mighty,
With thy gglory and thy majesty.
4And in thy majesty †hride prosperously
Because of truth and meekness and righteousness;
And thy right hand shall teach thee iterrible things.
5Thine jarrows are sharp
In the heart of the king’s enemies;
Whereby the people fall under thee.
6kThy throne, O God, is for ever and ever:
The sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.
7lThou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness:
Therefore ||mGod, thy God, hath nanointed thee
With the oil of ogladness above thy fellows.
8All thy garments smell of pmyrrh, and paloes, and cassia,
Out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.
9Kings’ daughters were among qthy honourable women:
rUpon thy right hand did stand the squeen in tgold of uOphir.
10Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear;
wForget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;
11So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty:
For he is xthy Lord; and yworship thou him.
12And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with za gift;
Even athe rich among the people shall intreat †thy favour.
13The king’s daughter is ball glorious cwithin:
Her clothing is of wrought gold.
14dShe shall be brought unto the king ein raiment of needlework:
The virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
15With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought:
They shall enter into the king’s palace.
16Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children,
fWhom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
17I will make thy name to be remembered in gall generations:
Therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
Psalm 46
To the chief Musician ||for the sons of Korah, *A Song upon †Alamoth.
1God is our arefuge and strength,
bA very present help cin trouble.
2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into †the midst of the sea;
3dThough the waters thereof roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
4There is ea river, the streams whereof shall make glad fthe city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
5God is gin the midst of her; hshe shall not be moved:
God shall help her, †and that right early.
6iThe heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved:
He kuttered his voice, the earth lmelted.
7mThe Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is †our refuge. Selah.
8nCome, behold the works of the Lord,
What desolations he hath made in the earth.
9oHe maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth;
pHe breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder;
qHe burneth the chariot in the fire.
10rBe still, and know that I am God:
sI will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11mThe Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
Psalm 47
To the chief Musician, A Psalm ||for the sons of Korah.
1O aclap your hands, all ye people;
aaShout unto God with the voice of triumph.
2For the Lord most high is bterrible;
He is a great King over all the earth.
3He shall csubdue the people under us,
And the nations under our feet.
4He shall choose our dinheritance for us,
The eexcellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.
5fGod is gone up with a shout,
The Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6Sing praises to God, sing praises:
Sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
7For God is gthe King of all the earth:
hSing ye praises ||with understanding.
8iGod reigneth over the heathen:
God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
9||The jprinces of the people are gathered together,
Even the people of the God of Abraham:
For kthe shields of the earth belong unto God:
He is greatly exalted.
Psalm 48
*A Song and Psalm ||for the sons of Korah.
1aGreat is the Lord, and greatly to be praised
In bthe city of our God, in cthe mountain of his holiness.
2dBeautiful for situation, ethe joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion,
fOn the sides of the north, gthe city of the great King.
3God is known in her palaces for a hrefuge.
4For, lo, ithe kings were assembled, they passed by together.
5They saw it, and so they kmarvelled;
They were troubled, and lhasted away.
6mFear took hold upon them there,
And npain, oas of a woman in travail.
7Thou pbreakest the ships of qTarshish rwith an east wind.
8As we have heard, so have we seen
In sthe city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God:
God will testablish it for ever. Selah.
9We have thought of uthy lovingkindness, O God,
In the midst of thy temple.
10According to vthy name, O God, so is thy praise unto wthe ends of the earth:
Thy right hand is full of righteousness.
11Let mount Zion xrejoice,
Let xthe daughters of Judah be glad,
Because of thy judgments.
12Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.
13†Mark ye well her ybulwarks, ||consider her ypalaces;
That ye may tell it zto the generation following.
14For this God is our God for ever and ever:
He will be our guide even aunto death.
