Psalm 104

1Praise the Lord, my soul.v

Lord my God, you are very great;

you are clothed with splendor and majesty.w

2The Lord wrapsx himself in lighty as with a garment;

he stretchesz out the heavensa like a tentb

3and lays the beamsc of his upper chambers on their waters.d

He makes the cloudse his chariotf

and rides on the wings of the wind.g

4He makes winds his messengers,ah

flames of firei his servants.

5He set the earthj on its foundations;k

it can never be moved.

6You covered itl with the watery depthsm as with a garment;

the waters stoodn above the mountains.

7But at your rebukeo the waters fled,

at the sound of your thunderp they took to flight;

8they flowed over the mountains,

they went down into the valleys,

to the place you assignedq for them.

9You set a boundaryr they cannot cross;

never again will they cover the earth.

10He makes springss pour water into the ravines;

it flows between the mountains.

11They give watert to all the beasts of the field;

the wild donkeysu quench their thirst.

12The birds of the skyv nest by the waters;

they sing among the branches.w

13He waters the mountainsx from his upper chambers;y

the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.z

14He makes grass growa for the cattle,

and plants for people to cultivate—

bringing forth foodb from the earth:

15winec that gladdens human hearts,

oild to make their faces shine,

and bread that sustainse their hearts.

16The trees of the Lordf are well watered,

the cedars of Lebanong that he planted.

17There the birdsh make their nests;

the stork has its home in the junipers.

18The high mountains belong to the wild goats;i

the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.j

19He made the moon to mark the seasons,k

and the sunl knows when to go down.

20You bring darkness,m it becomes night,n

and all the beasts of the foresto prowl.

21The lions roar for their preyp

and seek their food from God.q

22The sun rises, and they steal away;

they return and lie down in their dens.r

23Then people go out to their work,s

to their labor until evening.t

24How many are your works,u Lord!

In wisdom you madev them all;

the earth is full of your creatures.w

25There is the sea,x vast and spacious,

teeming with creatures beyond number—

living things both large and small.y

26There the shipsz go to and fro,

and Leviathan,a which you formed to frolicb there.c

27All creatures look to you

to give them their foodd at the proper time.

28When you give it to them,

they gather it up;

when you open your hand,

they are satisfiede with good things.

29When you hide your face,f

they are terrified;

when you take away their breath,

they die and return to the dust.g

30When you send your Spirit,h

they are created,

and you renew the face of the ground.

31May the glory of the Lordi endure forever;

may the Lord rejoice in his worksj—

32he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,k

who touches the mountains,l and they smoke.m

33I will singn to the Lord all my life;

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

34May my meditation be pleasing to him,

as I rejoiceo in the Lord.

35But may sinners vanishp from the earth

and the wicked be no more.q

Praise the Lord, my soul.

Praise the Lord.br

Psalm 105

105:1–15pp—1Ch 16:8–22

1Give praise to the Lord,s proclaim his name;t

make known among the nations what he has done.

2Sing to him,u sing praise to him;v

tell of all his wonderful acts.w

3Glory in his holy name;x

let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.

4Look to the Lord and his strength;

seek his facey always.

5Remember the wondersz he has done,

his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,a

6you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,b

his chosenc ones, the children of Jacob.

7He is the Lord our God;

his judgments are in all the earth.

8He remembers his covenantd forever,

the promise he made, for a thousand generations,

9the covenant he made with Abraham,e

the oath he swore to Isaac.

10He confirmed itf to Jacob as a decree,

to Israel as an everlasting covenant:g

11“To you I will give the land of Canaanh

as the portion you will inherit.”i

12When they were but few in number,j

few indeed, and strangers in it,k

13they wandered from nation to nation,l

from one kingdom to another.

14He allowed no one to oppressm them;

for their sake he rebuked kings:n

15“Do not toucho my anointed ones;

do my prophetsp no harm.”

16He called down famineq on the land

and destroyed all their supplies of food;

17and he sent a man before them—

Joseph, sold as a slave.r

18They bruised his feet with shackles,s

his neck was put in irons,

19till what he foretoldt came to pass,

till the wordu of the Lord proved him true.

20The king sent and released him,

the ruler of peoples set him free.v

21He made him master of his household,

ruler over all he possessed,

22to instruct his princesw as he pleased

and teach his elders wisdom.x

23Then Israel entered Egypt;y

Jacob residedz as a foreigner in the land of Ham.a

24The Lord made his people very fruitful;

he made them too numerousb for their foes,

25whose hearts he turnedc to hate his people,

to conspired against his servants.

26He sent Mosese his servant,

and Aaron,f whom he had chosen.g

27They performedh his signsi among them,

his wondersj in the land of Ham.

28He sent darknessk and made the land dark—

for had they not rebelled againstl his words?

29He turned their waters into blood,m

causing their fish to die.n

30Their land teemed with frogs,o

which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.

31He spoke,p and there came swarms of flies,q

and gnatsr throughout their country.

32He turned their rain into hail,s

with lightning throughout their land;

33he struck down their vinest and fig treesu

and shattered the trees of their country.

34He spoke,v and the locusts came,w

grasshoppersx without number;y

35they ate up every green thing in their land,

ate up the produce of their soil.

36Then he struck down all the firstbornz in their land,

the firstfruits of all their manhood.

37He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold,a

and from among their tribes no one faltered.

38Egypt was glad when they left,

because dread of Israelb had fallen on them.

39He spread out a cloudc as a covering,

and a fire to give light at night.d

40They asked,e and he brought them quail;f

he fed them well with the bread of heaven.g

41He opened the rock,h and water gushed out;

it flowed like a river in the desert.

42For he remembered his holy promisei

given to his servant Abraham.

43He brought out his people with rejoicing,j

his chosen ones with shouts of joy;

44he gave them the lands of the nations,k

and they fell heir to what others had toiledl for—

45that they might keep his precepts

and observe his laws.m

Praise the Lord.an

Psalm 106

106:1,47–48pp—1Ch 16:34–36

1Praise the Lord.ao

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;p

his love endures forever.q

2Who can proclaim the mighty actsr of the Lord

or fully declare his praise?

3Blessed are those who act justly,s

who always do what is right.t

4Remember me,u Lord, when you show favorv to your people,

come to my aidw when you save them,

5that I may enjoy the prosperityx of your chosen ones,y

that I may share in the joyz of your nation

and join your inheritancea in giving praise.

6We have sinned,b even as our ancestorsc did;

we have done wrong and acted wickedly.d

7When our ancestors were in Egypt,

they gave no thoughte to your miracles;

they did not rememberf your many kindnesses,

and they rebelled by the sea,g the Red Sea.b

8Yet he saved themh for his name’s sake,i

to make his mighty powerj known.

9He rebukedk the Red Sea, and it dried up;l

he led them throughm the depths as through a desert.

10He saved themn from the hand of the foe;o

from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.p

11The waters coveredq their adversaries;

not one of them survived.

12Then they believed his promises

and sang his praise.r

13But they soon forgots what he had done

and did not wait for his plan to unfold.t

14In the desertu they gave in to their craving;

in the wildernessv they put God to the test.w

15So he gave themx what they asked for,

but sent a wasting diseasey among them.

16In the camp they grew enviousz of Moses

and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the Lord.

17The earth openeda up and swallowed Dathan;b

it buried the company of Abiram.c

18Fire blazedd among their followers;

a flame consumed the wicked.

19At Horeb they made a calfe

and worshiped an idol cast from metal.

20They exchanged their glorious Godf

for an image of a bull, which eats grass.

21They forgot the Godg who saved them,

who had done great thingsh in Egypt,

22miracles in the land of Hami

and awesome deedsj by the Red Sea.

23So he said he would destroyk them—

had not Moses, his chosen one,

stood in the breachl before him

to keep his wrath from destroying them.

24Then they despisedm the pleasant land;n

they did not believeo his promise.

25They grumbledp in their tents

and did not obey the Lord.

26So he sworeq to them with uplifted hand

that he would make them fall in the wilderness,r

27make their descendants fall among the nations

and scatters them throughout the lands.

28They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peort

and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;

29they aroused the Lord’s angeru by their wicked deeds,v

and a plaguew broke out among them.

30But Phinehasx stood up and intervened,

and the plague was checked.y

31This was credited to himz as righteousness

for endless generationsa to come.

32By the waters of Meribahb they angered the Lord,

and trouble came to Moses because of them;

33for they rebelledc against the Spiritd of God,

and rash words came from Moses’ lips.ce

34They did not destroyf the peoples

as the Lord had commandedg them,

35but they mingledh with the nations

and adopted their customs.

36They worshiped their idols,i

which became a snarej to them.

37They sacrificed their sonsk

and their daughters to false gods.l

38They shed innocent blood,

the blood of their sonsm and daughters,

whom they…
