The Lord’s Rule from Restored Zion

4In the last days m

the mountain of the Lord’s house n

will be established

at the top of the mountains

and will be raised above the hills.

Peoples will stream to it, o

2and many nations will come and say, p

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, q

to the house of the God of Jacob.

He will teach us about His ways r

so we may walk in His paths.”

For instruction will go out of Zion s

and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

3He will settle disputes among many peoples t

and provide arbitration for strong nations

that are far away.

They will beat their swords into plows,

and their spears into pruning knives.

Nation will not take up the sword against nation,

and they will never again train for war.

4But each man will sit under his grapevine u

and under his fig tree

with no one to frighten him. v

For the mouth of the Lord wof Hosts

has promised this.

5Though all the peoples each walk

in the name of their gods, x

we will walk yin the name of Yahweh our God

forever and ever. z

6On that day—

this is the Lord’s declaration—

I will assemble the lame

and gather the scattered, a

those I have injured.

7I will make the lame into a remnant, b

those far removed into a strong nation.

Then the Lord will rule over them cin Mount Zion

from this time on and forever.

8And you, watchtower for the flock, d

fortified hill eof Daughter Zion,

the former rule fwill come to you,

sovereignty will come to Daughter Jerusalem.

From Exile to Victory

9Now, why are you shouting loudly? g

Is there no king with you?

Has your counselor perished h

so that anguish grips you like a woman in labor?

10Writhe and cry out, ijDaughter Zion,

like a woman in labor,

for now you will leave the city k

and camp in the open fields.

You will go to Babylon;

there you will be rescued; l

there the Lord will redeem you m

from the power of your enemies!

11Many nations have now assembled against you; n

they say, “Let her be defiled,

and let us feast our eyes on Zion.”

12But they do not know the Lord’s intentions o

or understand His plan,

that He has gathered them

like sheaves to the threshing floor.

13Rise and thresh, pDaughter Zion,

for I will make your horns iron

and your hooves bronze,

so you can crush many peoples. q

Then you rwill set apart their plunder s

to the Lord for destruction,

their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.

From Defeated Ruler to Conquering King

5tNow, daughter who is under attack,

you slash yourself in grief;

a siege is set against us!

They are striking the judge uof Israel

on the cheek with a rod.

2vBethlehem Ephrathah, w

you are small among the clans of Judah;

One will come from you x

to be ruler over Israel for Me. y

His origin zis from antiquity, a

from eternity. b

3Therefore, He will abandon them cuntil the time

when she who is in labor dhas given birth;

then the rest of His brothers ewill return

to the people of Israel. f

4He will stand and shepherd them g

in the strength of Yahweh,

in the majestic name of Yahweh His God.

They will live securely,

for then His greatness will extend

to the ends of the earth. h

5He will be their peace. i

When Assyria invades our land, j

when it marches against our fortresses,

we will raise against it seven shepherds,

even eight leaders of men.

6They will shepherd kthe land of Assyria with the sword,

the land of Nimrod lwith a drawn blade. m

So He will rescue us nfrom Assyria

when it invades our land,

when it marches against our territory.

The Glorious and Purified Remnant

7Then the remnant of Jacob o

will be among many peoples

like dew from the Lord, p

like showers on the grass, q

which do not wait for anyone

or linger for mankind.

8Then the remnant of Jacob

will be among the nations, among many peoples,

like a lion among animals of the forest, r

like a young lion among flocks of sheep,

which tramples sand tears tas it passes through,

and there is no one to rescue them. u

9Your hand will be lifted up against your adversaries, v

and all your enemies will be destroyed.

10In that day—

this is the Lord’s declaration—

I will remove your horses from you w

and wreck your chariots.

11I will remove the cities of your land x

and tear down all your fortresses. y

12I will remove sorceries from your hands, z

and you will not have any more fortune-tellers.

13I will remove your carved images a

and sacred pillars from you

so that you will not bow down again

to the work of your hands.

14I will pull up the Asherah poles bfrom among you c

and demolish your cities. d

15I will take vengeance in anger and wrath e

against the nations that have not obeyed Me.
