Psalm 135

THE LORD IS GREAT

¹Hallelujah!

Praise the name of the Lord.

Give praise, you servants of the Lord^m

²who stand in the house of the Lord,

in the courts of the house of our God.ⁿ

³Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;

sing praise to his name, for it is delightful.^o

⁴For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself,

Israel as his treasured possession.^p

⁵For I know that the Lord is great;

our Lord is greater than all gods.^q

⁶The Lord does whatever he pleases

in heaven and on earth,

in the seas and all the depths.^r

⁷He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth.

He makes lightning for the rain

and brings the wind from his storehouses.^s

⁸He struck down the firstborn of Egypt,

both people and animals.^t

⁹He sent signs and wonders against you, Egypt,

against Pharaoh and all his officials.^u

¹⁰He struck down many nations

and slaughtered mighty kings:^v

¹¹Sihon king of the Amorites,

Og king of Bashan,

and all the kings of Canaan.^w

¹²He gave their land as an inheritance,

an inheritance to his people Israel.^x

¹³Lord, your name endures forever,

your reputation, Lord,

through all generations.^y

¹⁴For the Lord will vindicate his people

and have compassion on his servants.^z

¹⁵The idols of the nations are of silver and gold,

made by human hands.^aa

¹⁶They have mouths but cannot speak,^ab

eyes, but cannot see.

¹⁷They have ears but cannot hear;

indeed, there is no breath in their mouths.^ac

¹⁸Those who make them are just like them,

as are all who trust in them.^ad

¹⁹House of Israel, bless the Lord!^ae

House of Aaron, bless the Lord!^af

²⁰House of Levi, bless the Lord!

You who revere the Lord, bless the Lord!^ag

²¹Blessed be the Lord from Zion;^ah

he dwells in Jerusalem.^ai

GOD’S LOVE IS ETERNAL

¹Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.^a

²Give thanks to the God of gods.

³Give thanks to the Lord of lords.^b

His faithful love endures forever.

⁴He alone does great wonders.^c

⁵He made the heavens skillfully.^d

⁶He spread the land on the waters.^e

⁷He made the great lights:^f

His faithful love endures forever.

⁸the sun to rule by day,

His faithful love endures forever.

⁹the moon and stars to rule by night.^g

¹⁰He struck the firstborn of the Egyptians^h

His faithful love endures forever.

¹¹and brought Israel out from among them

¹²with a strong hand and outstretched arm.ⁱ

¹³He divided the Red Sea^j

His faithful love endures forever.

¹⁴and led Israel through,^k

¹⁵but hurled Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea.^l

¹⁶He led his people in the wilderness.^m

¹⁷He struck down great kings

His faithful love endures forever.

¹⁸and slaughtered famous kings—

His faithful love endures forever.

¹⁹Sihon king of the Amorites

²⁰and Og king of Bashan—

His faithful love endures forever.

²¹and gave their land as an inheritance,

His faithful love endures forever.

²²an inheritance to Israel his servant.ⁿ

²³He remembered us in our humiliation^o

His faithful love endures forever.

²⁴and rescued us from our foes.^p

²⁵He gives food to every creature.^q
