The Mountain of the Lord
2:1-4pp — Mic 4:1–3
This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:a
In the last daysb
the mountainc of the Lord’s temple will be established
as the highest of the mountains;d
it will be exaltede above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.f
Many peoplesg will come and say,
“Come, let us goh up to the mountaini of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The lawj will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.k
He will judgel between the nations
and will settle disputesm for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.n
Nation will not take up sword against nation,o
nor will they train for war anymore.
Come, house of Jacob,p
let us walk in the lightq of the Lord.
The Day of the Lord
You have abandoneda your people,
the house of Jacob.b
They are full of superstitions from the East;
they practice divinationc like the Philistinesd
and clasp handse with pagans.f
Their land is full of silver and gold;g
there is no end to their treasures.h
Their land is full of horses;i
there is no end to their chariots.j
Their land is full of idols;k
they bow downl to the work of their hands,m
to what their fingersn have made.
So people will be brought lowo
and everyone humbledp—
do not forgive them.q
Go into the rocks, hider in the ground
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendor of his majesty!s
The eyes of the arrogantt will be humbledu
and human pridev brought low;w
the Lord alone will be exaltedx in that day.y
The Lord Almighty has a dayz in store
for all the prouda and lofty,b
for all that is exaltedc
(and they will be humbled),d
for all the cedars of Lebanon,e tall and lofty,f
and all the oaks of Bashan,g
for all the towering mountains
and all the high hills,h
for every lofty toweri
and every fortified wall,j
for every trading shipk
and every stately vessel.
The arrogance of all people will be brought lowl
and human pride humbled;m
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,n
and the idolso will totally disappear.p
People will flee to cavesq in the rocks
and to holes in the groundr
from the fearful presences of the Lord
and the splendor of his majesty,t
when he rises to shake the earth.u
In that dayv people will throw away
to the moles and batsw
their idols of silver and idols of gold,x
which they made to worship.y
They will flee to caverns in the rocksz
and to the overhanging crags
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendor of his majesty,a
when he risesb to shake the earth.c
Stop trusting in human beings,d
who have but a breathe in their nostrils.
Why hold them in esteem?f
