Psalm 97:1–99:9

The Majestic King

¹The Lord reigns! Let the earth rejoice;

let the many coasts and islands be glad. ^c

²Clouds and thick darkness surround Him;

righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. ^d

³Fire goes before Him

and burns up His foes on every side. ^e

⁴His lightning lights up the world;

the earth sees and trembles. ^f

⁵The mountains melt like wax

at the presence of the Lord—

at the presence of the Lord of all the earth. ^g

⁶The heavens proclaim His righteousness; ^h

all the peoples see His glory. ⁱ

⁷All who serve carved images,

those who boast in idols, will be put to shame. ^j

All the gods ^kmust worship Him. ^l

⁸Zion hears and is glad,

and the towns ^mof Judah rejoice

because of Your judgments, Lord. ⁿ

⁹For You, Lord,

are the Most High over all the earth;

You are exalted above all the gods. ^o

¹⁰You who love the Lord, hate evil! ^p

He protects the lives of His godly ones; ^q

He rescues them from the power of the wicked. ^r

¹¹Light dawns ^stfor the righteous,

gladness for the upright in heart. ^u

¹²Be glad in Yahweh, you righteous ones,

and praise His holy name. ^vw

Psalm 98

Praise the King

A psalm.

¹Sing a new song to the Lord, ^x

for He has performed wonders;

His right hand and holy arm

have won Him victory. ^y

²The Lord has made His victory known;

He has revealed His righteousness

in the sight of the nations. ^z

³He has remembered His love

and faithfulness to the house of Israel;

all the ends of the earth

have seen our God’s victory. ^a

⁴Shout to the Lord, all the earth;

be jubilant, shout for joy, and sing. ^b

⁵Sing to the Lord with the lyre,

with the lyre and melodious song. ^c

⁶With trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn

shout triumphantly

in the presence of the Lord, our King. ^d

⁷Let the sea and all that fills it,

the world and those who live in it, resound. ^e

⁸Let the rivers clap their hands;

let the mountains shout together for joy ^f

⁹before the Lord,

for He is coming to judge the earth.

He will judge the world righteously

and the peoples fairly. ^g

Psalm 99

The King Is Holy

¹The Lord reigns! Let the peoples tremble.

He is enthroned above the cherubim. ^h

Let the earth quake. ⁱ

²Yahweh is great in Zion;

He is exalted above all the peoples. ^j

³Let them praise Your great

and awe-inspiring name. ^k

He is holy. ^l

⁴The mighty King loves justice.

You have established fairness;

You have administered justice

and righteousness in Jacob. ^m

⁵Exalt the Lord our God;

bow in worship at His footstool. ⁿ

He is holy. ^o

⁶Moses and Aaron were among His priests; ^p

Samuel also was among those calling on His name.

They called to Yahweh and He answered them. ^q

⁷He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud; ^r

they kept His decrees and the statutes He gave them.

⁸Lord our God, You answered them.

You were a forgiving God to them, ^s

an avenger of their sinful actions. ^t

⁹Exalt the Lord our God;

bow in worship at His holy mountain,

for the Lord our God is holy. ^u
