Celebration in Heaven
19After this I heard something like the loud voice of a vast multitude jin heaven, saying:
Hallelujah! k
Salvation, glory, and power belong to our God, l
2because His judgments are true mand righteous, n
because He has judged the notorious prostitute o
who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality;
and He has avenged the blood of His slaves
that was on her hands. p
3A second time they said:
Hallelujah!
Her smoke ascends forever and ever! q
4Then the 24 elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, rwho is seated on the throne, saying:
Amen! Hallelujah! s
5A voice came from the throne, saying:
Praise our God,
all His slaves, who fear Him,
both small and great! t
Marriage of the Lamb Announced
6Then I heard something like the voice of a vast multitude, like the sound of cascading waters, uand like the rumbling of loud thunder, saying:
Hallelujah, because our Lord God, the Almighty,
has begun to reign! v
7Let us be glad, rejoice, and give Him glory, w
because the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and His wife has prepared herself. x
8She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure. y
For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints. z
9Then he asaid to me, b“Write: Those invited to the marriage feast cof the Lamb are fortunate!” He also said to me, “These words of God are true.” d10Then I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “Don’t do that! eI am a fellow slave with you and your brothers who have the testimony about fJesus. gWorship God, because the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” h
The Rider on a White Horse
11Then I saw heaven opened, iand there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, jand He judges and makes war in righteousness. k12His eyes were like a fiery flame, land many crowns mwere on His head. nHe had a name written that no one knows except Himself. o13He wore a robe stained with blood, pqand His name is the Word of God. r14The armies that were in heaven followed Him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. 15A sharp ssword tcame from His mouth, so that He might strike the nations with it. uHe will shepherd vthem with an iron scepter. wHe will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, xthe Almighty. 16And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. y
The Beast and His Armies Defeated
17Then I saw an angel standing on zthe sun, and he cried out in a loud voice, saying to all the birds flying high overhead, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18so that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of commanders, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of their riders, and the flesh of everyone, both free and slave, small and great.” a
19Then I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies bgathered together to wage war cagainst the rider on the horse and against His army. 20But the beast was taken prisoner, and along with him the false prophet, who had performed the signs in his presence. He deceived those who accepted the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image with these signs. dBoth of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. e21The rest were killed with the sword that came from the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.
Satan Bound
20Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the abyss fand a great chain gin his hand. 2He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent who is the Devil and Satan, hiand bound jhim for 1,000 years. 3He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it kso that he would no longer deceive the nations luntil the 1,000 years were completed. After that, he must be released for a short time.
The Saints Reign with the Messiah
4Then I saw thrones, and people seated on them who were given authority to judge. mI also saw the people nowho had been beheaded pbecause of their testimony about Jesus qand because of God’s word, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and who had not accepted the mark on their foreheads or their hands. rThey came to life sand reigned with the Messiah for 1,000 years. t5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the 1,000 years were completed. This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed uand holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! The second death vhas no power wover them, but they will be priests of God and of the Messiah, and they will reign with Him for 1,000 years. x
Satanic Rebellion Crushed
7When the 1,000 years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations yat the four corners of the earth, zGog and Magog, to gather them for battle. aTheir number is like the sand of the sea. b9They came up over the surface of the earth and surrounded the encampment of the saints, the beloved city. cThen fire came down from heaven dand consumed them. e10The Devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet are, fand they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. g
The Great White Throne Judgment
11Then I saw a great white throne and One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them. h12I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. iAnother book was opened, which is the book of life, jand the dead were judged according to their works kby what was written in the books.
13Then the sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades lgave up their dead; all mwere judged according to their works. 14Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. nThis is the second death, the lake of fire. o15And anyone not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
The New Creation
21Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, pfor the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, qand the sea no longer existed. r2I also saw the Holy City, snew Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, tprepared like a bride adorned for her husband. u
3Then I heard a loud voice vfrom the throne: wx
Look! God’s dwelling yis with humanity,
and He will live with them.
They will be His people, z
and God Himself will be with them
and be their God. a
4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. b
Death will no longer exist; c
grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, d
because the previous things ehave passed away. f
5Then the One seated on the throne said, “Look! I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words gare faithful and true.” h6And He said to me, “It is done! iI am the Alpha and the Omega, jthe Beginning and the End. kI will give water as a gift to the thirsty lfrom the spring of life. m7The victor nwill inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. o8But the cowards, unbelievers, pvile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars q—their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, rwhich is the second death.” s
The New Jerusalem
9Then one of the seven angels, who had held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues, tcame and spoke with me: “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10He then carried me away in the Spirit uvto a great and high mountain wand showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11arrayed with God’s glory. xHer radiance was like a very precious stone, like a jasper stone, bright as crystal. 12The city had a massive high wall, with 12 gates. Twelve angels were at the gates; the names of the 12 tribes of Israel’s sons were inscribed on the gates. 13There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. y14The city wall had 12 foundations, and the 12 names of the Lamb’s 12 apostles were on the foundations.
15The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod zto measure the city, its gates, and its wall. a16The city is laid out in a square; its length and width are the same. He measured the city with the rod at 12,000 stadia. bIts length, width, and height are equal. 17Then he measured its wall, 144 cubits according to human measurement, which the angel used. 18The building material of its wall was jasper, and the city was pure gold like clear glass.
19The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone: c
the first foundation jasper,
the second sapphire,
the third chalcedony,
the fourth emerald,
20the fifth sardonyx,
the sixth carnelian,
the seventh chrysolite,
the eighth beryl,
the ninth topaz,
the tenth chrysoprase,
the eleventh jacinth,
the twelfth amethyst.
21The 12 gates are 12 pearls; each individual gate was made of a single pearl. The broad street dof the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
22I did not see a sanctuary in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary. 23The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. e24The nations fwill walk in its light, gand the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. hi25Each day its gates will never close because it will never be night there. j26They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. kl27Nothing profane will ever enter it: mno one who does what is vile or false, but only those written in the Lamb’s book of life. n
The Source of Life
22Then he showed me the river oof living water, psparkling like crystal, qflowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb r2down the middle of the broad street of the city. The tree of life swas on both sides of the river, bearing 12 kinds of fruit, producing its fruit every month. tThe leaves of the tree are for healing the nations, u3and there will no longer be any curse. vThe throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, wand His slaves will serve Him. 4They will see His face, …
