The aburden of bTyre.

cHowl, ye ships of Tarshish;

For it is laid waste, dso that there is no house, dno entering in:

From the land of eChittim it is revealed to them.

2Be fstill, gye inhabitants of the isle;

Thou whom the merchants of hZidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.

3And by great waters the seed of iSihor,

The harvest of the river, is her revenue;

And kshe is a mart of nations.

4Be thou ashamed, O hZidon: for the sea hath spoken,

Even the strength of the sea, saying,

I travail not, nor bring forth children,

Neither do I lnourish up young men, nor lbring up virgins.

5As at the report concerning Egypt,

So shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.

6Pass ye over to cTarshish; howl, gye inhabitants of the isle.

7Is this your mjoyous city, whose antiquity is of nancient days?

Her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.

8Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city,

Whose merchants are princes, whose nntraffickers are the honourable of the earth?

9The Lord of hosts hath purposed it,

To stain the pride of all oglory,

And to pbring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

10Pass through thy land as qa river, O daughter of cTarshish:

There is no more rstrength.

11He stretched out his hand over the sea, she shook the kingdoms:

The Lord hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.

12And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice,

O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon:

Arise, pass over to eChittim;

There also shalt thou have no rest.

13Behold the land of tthe Chaldeans;

This people was not,

Till the Assyrian founded it for uthem that dwell in the wilderness:

They set up the vtowers thereof,

They raised up the palaces thereof;

And he brought it wto ruin.

14cHowl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.

15And it shall come to pass in that day,

That Tyre shall be forgotten xseventy years,

According to the days of xxone king:

yAfter the end of seventy years yshall Tyre sing as a harlot.

16zTake a harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten;

aMake sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.

17And it shall come to pass yafter the end of seventy years,

That the Lord will aavisit Tyre,

And yshe shall turn to her hire,

And bshall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world

Upon the face of the earth.

18And her merchandise and her hire shall be choliness to the Lord:

It shall not be treasured nor laid up;

For dher merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the Lord,

To eat esufficiently, and for durable clothing.

XXIV.Behold, athe Lord bcmaketh the earth empty, and cmaketh it waste,

And turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

2And it shall be, eas with the people, so with the priest;

As with the servant, so with his master;

As with the maid, so with her mistress;

fAs with the buyer, so with the seller;

As with the lender, so with the borrower;

gAs with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

3hThe land shall be butterly emptied, and utterly spoiled:

iFor the Lord hath spoken this word.

4The earth mourneth and fadeth away,

The world jlanguisheth and fadeth away,

The haughty people of the earth jdo languish.

5The kearth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof;

Because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance,

lBroken the everlasting covenant.

6Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth,

And they that dwell therein mare desolate:

Therefore the inhabitants of the earth nare burned,

And ofew men left.

7pThe new wine mourneth, the vine jlanguisheth,

All the merryhearted do sigh.

8qThe mirth of rtabrets sceaseth, tthe noise of them that rejoice endeth,

The joy of rthe harp sceaseth.

9They shall not drink wine with a song;

Strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

10The city of uconfusion is broken down:

Every house is shut up, vthat no man may come in.

11There is wa crying xfor wine in the streets;

All joy is darkened,

The mirth of hthe land is gone.

12In the city is left desolation,

And the gate is smitten with destruction.

13When thus it shall be in the midst of hthe land among the people,

There shall be yas the shaking of an olive tree,

And zas the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.

14They shall lift up their voice, athey shall sing,

For the majesty of the Lord, they shall cry aloud bfrom the sea.

15Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the cfires,

Even dthe name of the Lord God of Israel in ethe isles of the sea.

16From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard eesongs, even fglory to the righteous.

But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me!

gThe treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously;

Yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

17hFear, and the pit, and the isnare,

Are upon thee, jO inhabitant of the earth.

18hAnd it shall come to pass, that khe who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit;

And he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare:

For lthe windows from on high are open,

And mthe foundations of the earth do shake.

19The earth nis utterly broken down,

The earth ois clean dissolved,

The earth is moved exceedingly.

20The earth shall preel to and fro like a drunkard,

And shall be removed like qa cottage;

And the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it;

And it shall fall, and not rise again.

21And it shall come to pass rin that day,

That the Lord shall punish the host of the high ones that are son high,

And tthe kings of the earth upon the earth.

22And they shall be gathered together, as uprisoners are gathered in the pit,

And shall be shut up in the uprison,

And vafter many days shall they be wvisited.

23xThen ythe moon shall be confounded, and ythe sun ashamed,

When zthe Lord of hosts shall reign

In amount Zion, and in Jerusalem,

And before his bancients gloriously.

XXV.O Lord, thou art my God;

aI will exalt thee, I will praise thy name;

For cthou hast done cdwonderful things;

Thy counsels eof old are faithfulness and truth.

2For thou hast made fof a city a heap;

Of fa defenced city ga ruin:

hA palace of strangers ito be no city;

It shall never be built.

3Therefore shall the strong people jglorify thee,

kThe city of the terrible nations shall fear thee.

4For thou hast been la strength to the poor,

A strength to the needy in his distress,

mA refuge from the storm, mna shadow from the heat,

When the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

5Thou shalt bring down othe noise of strangers,

As the heat in pa dry place;

Even the heat qwith the shadow of a cloud:

rThe branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.

6And in sthis mountain shall tthe Lord of hosts make uunto all people

tA feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees,

Of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

7And he will destroy in sthis mountain

The face of the covering cast tover all people,

And uthe vail that is spread tover all nations.

8vHe will swallow up death in wvictory;

And xthe Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces;

And the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth:

yFor the Lord hath spoken it.

9And it shall be said zin that day,

Lo, this is our God;

aWe have waited for him, and he will save us:

This is the Lord; awe have waited for him,

bWe will be glad and rejoice bin his salvation.

10For in sthis mountain shall the hand of the Lord crest,

And dMoab shall be trodden down eunder him,

Even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.

11And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them,

As he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim:

And he shall bring down their pride

Together with the spoils of their hands.

12And the fortress of gthe high fort of thy walls shall he gbring down,

gLay low, and gbring to the ground, even to the dust.
