Woe unto athem that decree unrighteous decrees,

And that write aagrievousness which they have prescribed;

2To turn aside the needy from judgment,

And to take away the right from bthe poor of my people,

bbThat widows may be their prey,

And that bthey may rob the fatherless.

3And cwhat will ye do in dthe day of cvisitation,

And in ethe desolation which shall come ffrom far?

To whom will ye flee for help?

And where will ye leave your glory?

4gWithout me they shall bow down under the prisoners,

And they shall fall under the slain.

hFor all this his anger is not turned away,

But his hand is stretched out still.

5O Assyrian, ithe rod of mine anger,

And ithe staff in their hand is mine indignation.

6I will send him against ka hypocritical nation,

And against the people of my wrath lwill I give him a charge,

mTo take the spoil, and to take the prey,

And to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

7Howbeit nhe meaneth not so,

Neither doth his heart think so;

But it is in his heart to destroy

And cut off nations not a few.

8oFor he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?

9Is not pCalno as qCarchemish?

rIs not sHamath as tArpad?

Is not uSamaria vas Damascus?

10wAs my hand hath found the kingdoms of xthe idols,

And whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of uSamaria;

11Shall I not, as I have done unto uSamaria and her xidols,

So do to Jerusalem and her yidols?

12Wherefore it shall come to pass, that zwhen the Lord hath performed his whole work

aUpon mount Zion and on Jerusalem,

bI will punish the fruit of the stout heart of cthe king of Assyria,

And the glory of his high looks.

13dFor he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it,

And eby my wisdom; for I am prudent:

And I have removed the bounds of the people,

And have robbed their treasures,

And I have put down the inhabitants like fa valiant man:

14And gmy hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people:

And as one gathereth eggs that are left,

Have I gathered all the earth;

And there was none that moved the wing,

Or opened the mouth, or hpeeped.

15Shall the axe iboast itself against him that heweth therewith?

Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it?

As if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up,

Or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.

16Therefore shall kthe Lord, the Lord of hosts,

Send among his lfat ones mleanness;

And under his glory he shall kindle a burning

Like the burning of a fire.

17And the light of Israel shall be for a fire,

And his Holy One for a flame:

And nit shall burn and devour ohis thorns and his briers pin one day;

18And shall consume qthe glory of his forest, and of rhis fruitful field,

Both soul and body:

And they shall be as when ta standard-bearer fainteth.

19And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few,

That a child may write them.

20And it shall come to pass uin that day,

That the remnant of Israel,

And vsuch as are escaped of the house of Jacob,

wShall no more again stay upon him that smote them;

But xshall stay upon the Lord,

The Holy One of Israel, in truth.

21yThe remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob,

Unto zthe mighty God.

22For athough thy people Israel be bas the sand of the sea,

Yet a remnant of them shall return:

cThe consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

23For the Lord God of hosts shall dmake a consumption, even determined,

In the midst of all the land.

24Therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts,

O my people that dwellest in Zion,

eBe not afraid of the Assyrian:

He shall smite thee with fa rod,

And shall lift up his fstaff against thee, gafter hthe manner of Egypt.

25For iyet ja very little while, and kthe indignation shall cease,

And mine anger in their destruction.

26And lthe Lord of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him

According to mthe slaughter of Midian at the rock Oreb:

And as nhis rod was upon the sea,

So shall he lift it up gafter hthe manner of Egypt.

27And it shall come to pass oin that day,

That phis burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder,

And his yoke from off thy neck,

And the yoke qshall be destroyed because of rthe anointing.

28He is come to rrAiath, he is passed to sMigron;

At tMichmash he hath laid up his ucarriages:

29They are gone over vthe passage: they have taken up their lodging at wGeba;

xRamah is afraid; yGibeah of Saul is fled.

30Lift up thy voice, O daughter of zGallim:

Cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor aAnathoth.

31bMadmenah is removed;

The inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.

32As yet shall he remain at cNob that day:

He shall dshake his hand eagainst eethe mount of fthe daughter of Zion,

The hill of Jerusalem.

33Behold, gthe Lord, the Lord of hosts,

Shall lop hthe bough with terror:

And ithe high ones of stature shall be hewn down,

And the haughty shall be humbled.

34And he shall cut down kthe thickets of the forest with iron,

And lLebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

XI.And there shall come forth aa rod out of bthe stem of cJesse,

And da Branch shall grow out of ehis roots:

2And fthe Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,

gThe spirit of wisdom and understanding,

The spirit of counsel and might,

The spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

3And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord:

And hhe shall not judge after ithe sight of his eyes,

Neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

4But kwith righteousness shall he judge the poor,

And reprove with equity for the meek of the earth:

And he shall lsmite the earth with the rod of his mouth,

And mwith the breath of his lips nshall he slay the wicked.

5And orighteousness pshall be the girdle of his loins,

And faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

6qThe wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,

And rthe leopard shall lie down with the kid;

And the calf and rrthe young lion and the fatling together;

And a little child shall lead them.

7And the cow and the bear shall feed;

Their young ones shall lie down together:

And qsthe lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8And the sucking child shall play on the hole of ssthe asp,

And the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.

9qtThey shall not hurt nor destroy in all umy holy mountain:

vFor the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord,

As the waters cover the sea.

10And win that day xthere shall be ya root of Jesse,

Which shall stand for zan ensign of the people;

To it shall the Gentiles seek:

And ahis rest shall be glorious.

11And it shall come to pass win that day,

That the Lord shall set his hand again the second time

To recover the remnant of his people,

aaWhich shall be left bfrom Assyria,

And bfrom Egypt, and from cPathros,

And from dCush, and from eElam, and from fShinar,

And from gHamath, and from hthe islands of the sea.

12And ihe shall set up jan ensign for the nations,

And shall assemble kthe outcasts of Israel,

And lgather together mthe dispersed of Judah

From the four corners of the earth.

13nThe envy also of Ephraim shall depart,

And the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off:

Ephraim shall not envy Judah,

And Judah shall not vex Ephraim.

14But they shall fly upon othe shoulders of pthe Philistines toward the west;

They shall spoil them of the east together:

qThey shall lay their hand upon rEdom and sMoab;

qAnd the children of stAmmon ushall obey them.

15And the Lord vshall utterly destroy xthe tongue of the Egyptian sea;

And with his mighty wind shall he yshake his hand over zthe river,

And shall smite it in the seven streams,

And amake men go over dryshod.

16And bthere shall be ca highway for the remnant of his people,

dWhich shall be left from Assyria;

eLike as it was to Israel

In the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.
