Tidal (תִּדְעָל, tid'al). A king of Goiim who was part of an alliance that attacked the five cities of the Valley of Siddim (the Salt Sea or Dead Sea; Gen 14:1–16). The force led by Tidal and three other kings (Amraphel, king of Shinar; Arioch, king of Ellasar; and Chedorlaomer, king of Elam) carried away booty and slaves, including Lot and his possessions. Abram responded by bringing his own 318 trained men to rescue them and bring back their possessions. Tidal is mentioned only in Gen 14:1 and 9.
