Matthew 26:63–75

⁶³But ^dJesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, ^eI adjure thee by ^fthe living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, ^gthe Son of God. ⁶⁴Jesus saith unto him, ^hThou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, ⁱHereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting ^kon the right hand of ^kkpower, and coming in the clouds of heaven. ⁶⁵Then the high priest ^lrent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. ⁶⁶What think ye? They answered and said, He is ^mguilty ⁿof death. ⁶⁷Then did they ^ospit in his face, and ^pbuffeted him; and ^qothers ^rsmote him with ^||the palms of their hands, ⁶⁸Saying, ^sProphesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

^69tNow Peter sat without in the ^upalace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of ^vGalilee. ⁷⁰But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. ⁷¹And when he was gone out into ^wthe porch, ^xanother maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of ^vNazareth. ⁷²And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. ⁷³And ^yafter a while came unto him ^zthey that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for ^athy speech ^bbewrayeth thee. ⁷⁴Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. ⁷⁵And Peter ^cremembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, ^dBefore the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
