Wherefore, aholy brethren, partakers of bthe heavenly ccalling, consider dthe Apostle and eHigh Priest of our fprofession, Christ Jesus; 2who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also gMoses was faithful in all his house. 3For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as hhe who hath ibuilded the house hath more honour than the house. 4For every house is ibuilded by some man; but jhe that ibuilt all things is God. 5And gMoses verily was kfaithful in all his house, as la servant, mfor a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; 6but Christ as na Son over his own house; owhose house are we, if we phold fast qthe confidence and rthe rejoicing sof the hope firm tunto the end. 7Wherefore, as uthe Holy Ghost saith, vTo day if ye will hear his voice, 8harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9when your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works wforty years. 10Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11xSo I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.
12Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from ythe living God. 13But zexhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened athrough the deceitfulness of sin. 14For we are made partakers of Christ, if we bhold the beginning of our cconfidence bstedfast unto the end; 15whilst it is said, dTo day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16For esome, when they had heard, did fprovoke: howbeit gnot all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, hwhose icarcases fell in the wilderness? 18And kto whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that lbelieved not? 19So we see that mthey could not enter in because of nunbelief.
IV.Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you ashould seem bto come short of it. 2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as cunto them: but the word preached did not profit them, dnot being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as ehe said, fAs I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished gfrom the foundation of the world. 4For ehe spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, hAnd God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5And in this place again, fIf they shall enter into my rest. 6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and cthey to whom it was first preached ientered not in because of unbelief, 7again, he limiteth a certain day, saying kin David, lTo day, after so long a time; as it is said, lTo day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10For mhe that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall nafter the same oexample of punbelief. 12For qthe word of God is rquick, and powerful, and ssharper than any ttwoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of usoul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is va discerner of the thoughts and wintents of the heart. 13xNeither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are ynaked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14Seeing then that we have a great zhigh priest, athat is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, blet us hold fast our cprofession. 15For dwe have not za high priest ewhich cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was fin all points gtempted like as we are, yet hwithout sin. 16iLet us therefore come jboldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and kfind grace to help in time of need.
