Moresheth Gath (מוֹרֶשֶׁת גַּת, moresheth gath). The home or birthplace of the prophet Micah (Mic 1:14). Micah is twice described as “of Moresheth” (Jer 26:18; Mic 1:1). The town was located in the Shephelah of Judah.

The name literally means “Possession of Gath,” and therefore was probably near Gath. It was probably also near Mareshah (Mic 1:15) in the foothills of Judah. This would place it between the hill country and the Philistine plain, on the route from Jerusalem to Lachish. Micah mentions towns and villages in both the Shephelah and Philistine country.
