Asia Minor Geographical label used to indicate the Anatolian peninsula, the western half of modern-day Turkey. Asia Minor is situated between the Mediterranean Sea on the south and the Black Sea on the north, with the Aegean Sea to the west. The peninsula’s eastern edge borders Asia and the Middle East.
As a primary link between Asia and Europe, Asia Minor has been inhabited by various people groups throughout history as power has shifted between the continents. Although the peninsula’s terrain impeded extensive travel, a major route known as the Persian Royal Road crossed Asia Minor between Persia on the east and Sardis on the west (French, Roman Roads).
