Ahikam, Son of Shaphan (אֲחִיקָם, achiqam), son of Shaphan. An official in Josiah’s court (2 Kgs 22:12). His father was Shaphan the scribe (2 Kgs 22:3).
Ahikam was a member of the deputation sent by Josiah to the prophetess Huldah to consult her concerning the contents of the Book of the Law they had found (2 Kgs 22:14). Under Jehoiakim, Ahikam had sufficient influence to protect Jeremiah from being put to death (Jer 26:24).
Ahikam was the father of Gedaliah, whom Nebuchadnezzar made governor of the land after the capture of Jerusalem (2 Kgs 25:22–26). Nebuchadnezzar also committed Jeremiah into his care (Jer 39:14).
