Location
Wadi ed-Daliyeh is located about 9 miles (14 km) north of Jericho and 8 miles west of the Jordan River, about halfway between Jericho and Samaria (Gropp, “Samaria Papyri,” 3; Tsafrir, et al., Tabula Imperii Romani, 256). It sits on the western edge of the Jordan valley, and makes a sharp cut westward into the central hill country. This is east of the central ridge route, also known as the “Way of the Patriarchs.” As the wadi winds west from the Jordan valley, sheer cliffs rising hundreds of feet above the valley floor are honeycombed with numerous caves (N. Lapp, “Daliyeh, Wadi-ed” [2000], 162; Lapp and Lapp, “Account,” 1).
