3:19Look, at that time I will deal with those who mistreated you.

I will rescue the lame sheep52

and gather together the scattered sheep.

I will take away their humiliation

and make the whole earth admire and respect them.53

3:20At that time I will lead you—

at the time I gather you together.54

Be sure of this!55 I will make all the nations of the earth respect and admire you56

when you see me restore you,”57 says the Lord.

Footnotes

  1. 52 The word “sheep” is supplied for clarification. As in Mic 4:6–7, the exiles are here pictured as injured and scattered sheep whom the divine shepherd rescues from danger.
  2. 53 Heb “I will make them into praise and a name, in all the earth, their shame.” The present translation assumes that “their shame” specifies “them” and that “name” stands here for a good reputation.
  3. 54 In this line the second person pronoun is masculine plural, indicating that the exiles are addressed.
  4. 55 Or “for.”
  5. 56 Heb “I will make you into a name and praise among all the peoples of the earth.” Here the word “name” carries the nuance of “good reputation.”
  6. 57 Heb “when I restore your fortunes to your eyes.” See the note on the phrase “restore them” in .

I will give you fame and praise

when I restore your fortunes before your eyes.

The Lord has spoken.

NLTNew Living Translation

And I will deal severely with all who have oppressed you.

I will save the weak and helpless ones;

I will bring together

those who were chased away.

I will give glory and fame to my former exiles,

wherever they have been mocked and shamed.

On that day I will gather you together

and bring you home again.

I will give you a good name, a name of distinction,

among all the nations of the earth,

as I restore your fortunes before their very eyes.

I, the Lord, have spoken!”

Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee:

And I will save her that halteth,

And gather her that was driven out;

And I will get them praise and fame

In every land where they have been put to shame.

For I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth,

When I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.
