  2. 16 Heb “you cleared away before it.”
  3. 17 Heb “and it took root [with] its roots.”
  4. 18 Heb “cedars of God.” The divine name אֵל (’al, “God”) is here used in an idiomatic manner to indicate the superlative.

You brought us from Egypt like a grapevine;

you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land.

our branches covered the mighty cedars.

We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea;

our shoots spread east to the Euphrates River.

KJV 1900King James Version

Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt:

Thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

Thou preparedst room before it,

And didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.

The hills were covered with the shadow of it,

And the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.

She sent out her boughs unto the sea,

And her branches unto the river.
