The Plot to Kill Jesus

1 aWhen Jesus had finished all these words, He said to His disciples,

2 aYou know that after two days bthe Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be chanded over for crucifixion.”

3 aThen the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in bthe court of the high priest, named cCaiaphas;

4 and they aplotted together to seize Jesus by stealth and kill Him.

5 But they were saying, “Not during the festival, aotherwise a riot might occur among the people.”

Matthew 26:1–5 — The New International Version (NIV)

When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, As you know, the Passover is two days awayand the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”

Then the chief priests met with the elders of the people. They met in the palace of Caiaphas, the high priest. They made plans to arrest Jesus in a clever way. They wanted to kill him. “But not during the Feast,” they said. “The people may stir up trouble.”
