CHAPTER 38

Prophecy Against Gog

1And the word of Yahweh came to me saying,

2“Son of man, set your face toward aGog of the land of bMagog, the 1cchief prince of dMeshech and eTubal, and prophesy against him

3and say, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, 1chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.

4“I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will abring you out, and all your military force, bhorses and horsemen, all of them 1magnificently dressed, a great assembly with large shield and shield, all of them 2wielding swords;

5aPersia, 1bEthiopia, and cPut with them, all of them with shield and helmet;

6aGomer with all its troops; bBeth-togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops—many peoples with you.

7“aBe prepared, and prepare yourself, you and all your assembly that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them.

8“aAfter many days you will be mustered; in the last years you will come into the land that is 1restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been bgathered from many peoples to the cmountains of Israel which had been a continual waste; but 2its people were brought out from the peoples, and they are dliving securely, all of them.

9“And you will go up; you will come alike a storm; you will be like a bcloud covering the land, you and all your troops and many peoples with you.”

10‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “It will be in that day, that 1thoughts will come into your heart, and you will adevise an evil plan,

11and you will say, ‘I will go up against the land of 1aunwalled villages. I will go against those who bdwell quietly, that live securely, all of them living without walls and having no bars or gates,

12to acapture spoil and to seize plunder, to turn your hand against the waste places, which are now inhabited, and against the people who are gathered from the nations, who have acquired cattle and property, who live at the 1center of the world.’

13“aSheba and bDedan and the merchants of cTarshish with all its 1young lions will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your assembly to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great dspoil?’”’

14“Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “On that day when My people Israel are aliving securely, will you not know it?

15“aYou will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and numerous peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great assembly and a numerous military force;

16and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It will be in the last days that I will bring you against My land so that the nations may aknow Me when I bprove Myself holy through you before their eyes, O Gog.”

17‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Are you the one of whom I spoke in former days by the hand of My slaves the prophets of Israel, who aprophesied in those days for many years that I would bring you against them?

18“And it will be in that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” declares Lord Yahweh, “that My wrath will mount up in My aanger.

19“In My azeal and in My blazing fury I have spoken that on that day there will surely be a great 1bearthquake in the land of Israel.

20“aAnd the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the beasts of the field, all the creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the men who are on the face of the earth will quake at My presence; the bmountains also will be pulled down, the steep pathways will fall, and every wall will fall to the earth.

21“And I will call for a asword against 1him on all My mountains,” declares Lord Yahweh. “bEvery man’s sword will be against his brother.

22“With pestilence and with blood I will enter into ajudgment with him; and I will rain on him and on his troops, and on the numerous peoples who are with him, 1a torrential rain, with bhailstones, fire, and brimstone.

23“And I will magnify Myself, I will manifest Myself as holy, and I will amake Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am Yahweh.” ’

CHAPTER 39

Prophecy About Gog’s Judgment

1“Now as for ayou, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, 1chief prince of Meshech and Tubal;

2and I will turn you around, drive you on, take you up from the remotest parts of the north, and bring you against the mountains of Israel.

3“And I will astrike your bow from your left hand and cause your arrows from your right hand to fall.

4“You will afall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you as bfood to every 1kind of predatory bird and beast of the field.

5“You will fall on the 1open field; for it is I who have spoken,” declares Lord Yahweh.

6“And I will send afire upon Magog and those who inhabit the bcoastlands securely; and they will know that I am Yahweh.

7“And My aholy name I will make known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let My holy name be bprofaned anymore. And the cnations will know that I am Yahweh, the dHoly One in Israel.

8“Behold, it is coming, and it shall be done,” declares Lord Yahweh. “That is the day of which I have spoken.

9“Then those who inhabit the cities of Israel will ago out and make bfires with the weapons and burn them, both shields and large shields, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears; and for seven years they will make fires of them.

10“They will not carry wood from the field or gather firewood from the forests, for they will make fires with the weapons; and they will take the spoil of those who made them into spoil and seize the aplunder of those who plundered them,” declares Lord Yahweh.

11“And it will be in that day, that I will give Gog a burial ground there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea, and it will block off those who would pass by. So they will bury Gog there with all his multitude, and they will call it the valley of 1Hamon-gog.

12“And for seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to acleanse the land.

13“Even all the people of the land will bury them; and it will be 1unto their aname on the day that I bglorify Myself,” declares Lord Yahweh.

14“Now they will set apart men who will continually pass through the land, aburying those who were passing through, even those left on the surface of the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a search.

15“And those who pass through the land will pass through, and when anyone sees a man’s bone, he will 1set up a marker by it until the buriers have buried it in the valley of 2Hamon-gog.

16“And even the name of the city will be Hamonah. So they will cleanse the land.” ’

17“Now as for you, son of man, thus says Lord Yahweh, ‘Say to every 1kind of abird and to every bbeast of the field, “Gather and come, assemble from every side to My sacrifice which I am going to csacrifice for you, as a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood.

18“You will aeat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, as though they were brams, lambs, goats, and cbulls, all of them fatlings of dBashan.

19“So you will eat fat until you are satisfied and drink blood until you are drunk, from My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.

20“And you will be satisfied at My table with ahorses and charioteers, with mighty men and all the men of war,” declares Lord Yahweh.

21“And I will put My aglory among the nations; and all the nations will see My judgment which I have executed and My hand which I have placed on them.

22“And the house of Israel will aknow that I am Yahweh their God from that day onward.

23“And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their ainiquity because they acted unfaithfully against Me, and I bhid My face from them; so I gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and all of them fell by the sword.

24“aAccording to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions I dealt with them, and I hid My face from them.” ’ ”

Israel Will Live in Security

25Therefore thus says Lord Yahweh, “Now I will return the 1afortunes of Jacob and have compassion on the whole bhouse of Israel; and I will be cjealous for My holy name.

26“So they will 1aforget their dishonor and all their unfaithfulness which they 2perpetrated against Me, when they blive securely on their own land with cno one to make them tremble.

27“When I areturn them from the peoples and gather them from the lands of their enemies, then I shall bprove Myself holy 1through them in the sight of the many nations.

28“Then they will know that I am Yahweh their God because I made them go into exile among the nations, and then collected them again to their own land; and I will leave none of them there any longer.

29“And I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have apoured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares Lord Yahweh.
