Psalm 57

To the chief Musician, ||Al-taschith, †Michtam of David, *when he fled from Saul in the cave.

1Be amerciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me:

For my soul btrusteth in thee:

Yea, cin the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge,

dUntil these ecalamities be overpast.

2I will cry unto God most high;

Unto God that fperformeth all things for me.

3gHe shall send from heaven, and save me

||From the reproach of him that would hswallow me up. Selah.

God shall send forth ihis mercy and his truth.

4jMy soul is kamong lions:

And I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men,

Whose lteeth are spears and arrows,

And mtheir tongue na sharp sword.

5oBe thou exalted, O God, above the heavens;

Let thy glory be above all the earth.

6They have prepared pa net for my steps;

My soul is ppbowed down:

qThey have digged a pit before me,

Into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. Selah.

7rMy heart is ||fixed, O God, my heart is fixed:

I will sing and give praise.

8sAwake up, tmy glory; awake, upsaltery and uharp:

I myself will awake early.

9I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people:

I will sing unto thee among the nations.

10For xthy mercy is great unto the heavens,

And thy truth unto the clouds.

11oBe thou exalted, O God, above the heavens:

Let thy glory be above all the earth.

Psalm 58

To the chief Musician, ||*Al-taschith, Michtam of David.

1Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation?

Do ye judge auprightly, O ye sons of men?

2Yea, in heart ye work wickedness;

aaYe weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.

3bThe wicked are estranged from the womb:

They go astray †as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

4cTheir poison is †like the poison of a serpent:

They are like the deaf ||adder that stoppeth her ear;

5Which will not hearken to the voice of dcharmers,

||Charming never so ewisely.

6fBreak their teeth, O God, in their mouth:

Break out the ggreat teeth of the young lions, O Lord.

7Let them hmelt away as waters which run continually:

When ihe bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.

8As a snail which hmelteth, let every one of them pass away:

Like iithe untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.

9jBefore your pots can feel the kthorns,

He shall ltake them away as with a whirlwind, †both living, and in his wrath.

10mThe righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance:

He shall nwash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

11oSo that a man shall say, Verily there is †a reward for the righteous:

Verily phe is a God that judgeth in the earth.

Psalm 59

To the chief Musician, ||*Al-taschith, Michtam of David; †when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.

1aDeliver me from mine enemies, O my God:

†Defend me from abthem that rise up against me.

2Deliver me from bbthe workers of iniquity,

And save me from cbloody men.

3For, lo, they dlie in wait for my soul:

The mighty eare gathered against me;

fNot for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Lord.

4They run and prepare themselves fwithout my fault:

gAwake †to help me, and behold.

5Thou therefore, hO Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel,

gAwake to visit all the heathen:

Be not merciful to any wicked itransgressors. Selah.

6jThey return at evening:

They make a noise like a dog,

And go round about the city.

7Behold, they kbelch out with their mouth:

lSwords are in their lips:

For mwho, say they, doth hear?

8But thou, O Lord, nshalt laugh at them;

Thou shalt nhave all the heathen in derision.

9Because of his strength will I wait upon thee:

For God is †my defence.

10The God of my mercy shall oprevent me:

God shall let me psee my desire upon †mine enemies.

11Slay them not, lest my people forget:

qScatter them by thy power;

And rbring them down, O Lord sour shield.

12For tthe sin of their mouth and the words of their lips

Let them even be taken in their pride:

And for cursing and lying which they speak.

13Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be:

And ulet them know that God ruleth in Jacob

Unto xthe ends of the earth. Selah.

14And yat evening let them return;

And let them make a noise like a dog,

And go round about the city.

15Let them zwander up and down †for meat,

||And agrudge if they be not satisfied.

16But I will sing of thy power;

Yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning:

For thou hast been my bdefence

And crefuge in the day dof my trouble.

17Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing:

For God is my bdefence, and ethe God of my mercy.

Psalm 60

To the chief Musician *upon Shushan-eduth, ||Michtam of David, †to teach; when he *strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand.

1*O God, athou hast cast us off, thou hast †scattered us,

Thou hast been displeased; aaO turn thyself to us again.

2Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it:

bHeal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.

3cThou hast shewed thy people hard things:

dThou hast made us to drink the wine of eastonishment.

4Thou hast given fa banner to them that fear thee,

That it may be displayed because of gthe truth. Selah.

5hThat ithy beloved may be delivered;

Save with thy right hand, and khear me.

6God hath spoken lin his holiness;

I will rejoice, I will divide mShechem,

And nmete out the valley of oSuccoth.

7pGilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine;

qEphraim also is qqthe strength of mine head;

Judah is rmy lawgiver;

8sMoab is my washpot;

Over tEdom uwill I cast out my shoe:

wPhilistia, ||triumph thou because of me.

9Who will bring me into the †strong city?

Who will lead me into Edom?

10Wilt not thou, O God, which xhadst cast us off?

xxAnd thou, O God, which didst not go out with our armies?

11Give us help from trouble:

For vain is the †help of man.

12Through God we shall ydo valiantly:

For he it is that shall ztread down our enemies.
