Proverbs 6:12–19 — The New International Version (NIV)
12 A troublemaker and a villain,
who goes about with a corrupt mouth,
13 who winks maliciously with his eye,
signals with his feet
and motions with his fingers,
14 who plots evil with deceit in his heart—
he always stirs up conflict.
15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant;
he will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.
16 There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
12 A naughty person, a wicked man,
Walketh with a froward mouth.
13 He winketh with his eyes,
He speaketh with his feet,
He teacheth with his fingers;
14 Frowardness is in his heart,
He deviseth mischief continually;
He soweth discord.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly;
Suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
16 These six things doth the Lord hate:
Yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,
Feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies,
And he that soweth discord among brethren.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — New Living Translation (NLT)
12 What are worthless and wicked people like?
They are constant liars,
13 signaling their deceit with a wink of the eye,
a nudge of the foot, or the wiggle of fingers.
14 Their perverted hearts plot evil,
and they constantly stir up trouble.
15 But they will be destroyed suddenly,
broken in an instant beyond all hope of healing.
16 There are six things the Lord hates—
no, seven things he detests:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that kill the innocent,
18 a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
19 a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
12 A worthless person, a wicked man,
Walks with a perverse mouth;
13 He winks with his eyes,
He shuffles his feet,
He points with his fingers;
14 Perversity is in his heart,
He devises evil continually,
He sows discord.
15 Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly;
Suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.
16 These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — New Century Version (NCV)
12 Some people are wicked and no good.
They go around telling lies,
13 winking with their eyes, tapping with their feet,
and making signs with their fingers.
14 They make evil plans in their hearts
and are always starting arguments.
15 So trouble will strike them in an instant;
suddenly they will be so hurt no one can help them.
16 There are six things the Lord hates.
There are seven things he cannot stand:
17 a proud look,
a lying tongue,
hands that kill innocent people,
18 a mind that thinks up evil plans,
feet that are quick to do evil,
19 a witness who lies,
and someone who starts arguments among families.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — American Standard Version (ASV)
12 A worthless person, a man of iniquity,
Is he that walketh with a perverse mouth;
13 That winketh with his eyes, that speaketh with his feet,
That maketh signs with his fingers;
14 In whose heart is perverseness,
Who deviseth evil continually,
Who soweth discord.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly;
On a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy.
16 There are six things which Jehovah hateth;
Yea, seven which are an abomination unto him:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood;
18 A heart that deviseth wicked purposes,
Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that uttereth lies,
And he that soweth discord among brethren.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
12 A man of Belial, a wicked person, is he that goeth about with a perverse mouth; 13 he winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; 14 deceits are in his heart; he deviseth mischief at all times, he soweth discords. 15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly: in a moment shall he be broken, and without remedy. 16 These six things doth Jehovah hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood; 18 a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations; feet that are swift in running to mischief; 19 a false witness that uttereth lies, and he that soweth discords among brethren.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
12 A good-for-nothing scoundrel is a person who has a dishonest mouth.
13 He winks his eye,
makes a signal with his foot,
⸤and⸥ points with his fingers.
14 He devises evil all the time with a twisted mind.
He spreads conflict.
15 That is why disaster will come on him suddenly.
In a moment he will be crushed beyond recovery.
16 There are six things that the Lord hates,
even seven that are disgusting to him:
17 arrogant eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that kill innocent people,
18 a mind devising wicked plans,
feet that are quick to do wrong,
19 a dishonest witness spitting out lies,
and a person who spreads conflict among relatives.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
12 A worthless person, a wicked man
goes around speaking dishonestly,
13 winking his eyes, signaling with his feet,
and gesturing with his fingers.
14 He always plots evil with perversity in his heart—
he stirs up trouble.
15 Therefore calamity will strike him suddenly;
he will be shattered instantly—beyond recovery.
16 The Lord hates six things;
in fact, seven are detestable to Him:
17 arrogant eyes, a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that plots wicked schemes,
feet eager to run to evil,
19 a lying witness who gives false testimony,
and one who stirs up trouble among brothers.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
12 A scoundrel and a villain
goes around with crooked speech,
13 winking the eyes, shuffling the feet,
pointing the fingers,
14 with perverted mind devising evil,
continually sowing discord;
15 on such a one calamity will descend suddenly;
in a moment, damage beyond repair.
16 There are six things that the Lord hates,
seven that are an abomination to him:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked plans,
feet that hurry to run to evil,
19 a lying witness who testifies falsely,
and one who sows discord in a family.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
12 A worthless man, an evil man,
goes around with deceitful speech.
13 Winking in his eye, shuffling in his foot,
pointing in his fingers,
14 perversion in his heart, he devises evil;
at all times he will send out discord.
15 Upon such a man, suddenly shall his calamity come;
in a moment he will be damaged and there is no healing.
16 There are six things Yahweh hates,
and seven things are abominations of his soul:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a devising heart, plans of deception,
feet that hurry to run to evil,
19 a false witness who breathes lies
and sends out discord between brothers.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
12 A worthless and evil man
goes around saying twisted things with his mouth.
13 He winks with his eyes.
He makes signals with his feet.
He motions with his fingers.
14 His plans are evil. He has lies in his heart.
He is always stirring up fights.
15 Trouble will catch up with him in an instant.
He will suddenly be destroyed. Nothing can save him.
16 There are six things the Lord hates.
In fact, he hates seven things.
17 The Lord hates proud eyes,
a lying tongue,
and hands that kill those who aren’t guilty.
18 He also hates hearts that make evil plans,
feet that are quick to do evil,
19 any witness who pours out lies,
and anyone who stirs up family fights.
Proverbs 6:12–19 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
12 A worthless person, a wicked man,
Is the one who walks with a perverse mouth,
13 Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet,
Who points with his fingers;
14 Who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil,
Who spreads strife.
15 Therefore his calamity will come suddenly;
Instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.
16 There are six things which the Lord hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil,
19 A false witness who utters lies,
And one who spreads strife among brothers.
