KING OF THE EARTH

¹Sing a new song to the Lord;

let the whole earth sing to the Lord.^ag

²Sing to the Lord, bless his name;

proclaim his salvation from day to day.^ah

³Declare his glory among the nations,

his wondrous works among all peoples.^a

⁴For the Lord is great and is highly praised;

he is feared above all gods.^b

⁵For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,

but the Lord made the heavens.^c

⁶Splendor and majesty are before him;

strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.^d

⁷Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples,

ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.^e

⁸Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name;^f

bring an offering and enter his courts.^g

⁹Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness;^h

let the whole earth tremble before him.ⁱ

¹⁰Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.^j

The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken.^k

He judges the peoples fairly.”^l

¹¹Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;

let the sea and all that fills it resound.^m

¹²Let the fields and everything in them celebrate.

Then all the trees of the forest will shout for joyⁿ

¹³before the Lord, for he is coming—

for he is coming to judge the earth.

He will judge the world with righteousness

and the peoples with his faithfulness.^o

Psalm 97

THE MAJESTIC KING

¹The Lord reigns! Let the earth rejoice;

let the many coasts and islands be glad.^p

²Clouds and total darkness surround him;

righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.^q

³Fire goes before him

and burns up his foes on every side.^r

⁴His lightning lights up the world;

the earth sees and trembles.^s

⁵The mountains melt like wax

at the presence of the Lord—

at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.^t

⁶The heavens proclaim his righteousness;^u

all the peoples see his glory.^v

⁷All who serve carved images,

those who boast in worthless idols, will be put to shame.^w

All the gods must worship him.^x

⁸Zion hears and is glad,

Judah’s villages^B rejoice

because of your judgments, Lord.^y

⁹For you, Lord,

are the Most High over the whole earth;

you are exalted above all the gods.^z

¹⁰You who love the Lord, hate evil!^aa

He protects the lives of his faithful ones;^ab

he rescues them from the power of the wicked.^ac

¹¹Light dawns^D for the righteous,

gladness for the upright in heart.^ad

¹²Be glad in the Lord, you righteous ones,

and give thanks to his holy name.^Eae

Psalm 98

PRAISE THE KING

A psalm.

¹Sing a new song to the Lord,^af

for he has performed wonders;

his right hand and holy arm

have won him victory.^ag

²The Lord has made his victory known;

he has revealed his righteousness

in the sight of the nations.^ah

³He has remembered his love

and faithfulness to the house of Israel;

all the ends of the earth

have seen our God’s victory.^ai

⁴Let the whole earth shout to the Lord;

be jubilant, shout for joy, and sing.^a

⁵Sing to the Lord with the lyre,

with the lyre and melodious song.^b

⁶With trumpets and the blast of the trumpet

shout triumphantly

in the presence of the Lord, our King.^c

⁷Let the sea and all that fills it,

the world and those who live in it, resound.^d

⁸Let the rivers clap their hands;

let the mountains shout together for joy^e

⁹before the Lord,

for he is coming to judge the earth.

He will judge the world righteously

and the peoples fairly.^f

Psalm 99

THE KING IS HOLY

¹The Lord reigns! Let the peoples tremble.

He is enthroned between the cherubim.^g

Let the earth quake.^h

²The Lord is great in Zion;

he is exalted above all the peoples.ⁱ

³Let them praise your great

and awe-inspiring name.^j

He is holy.^k

⁴The mighty King loves justice.

You have established fairness;

you have administered justice

and righteousness in Jacob.^l

⁵Exalt the Lord our God;

bow in worship at his footstool.^m

He is holy.ⁿ

⁶Moses and Aaron were among his priests;^o

Samuel also was among those calling on his name.

They called to the Lord and he answered them.^p

⁷He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud;^q

they kept his decrees and the statutes he gave them.

⁸Lord our God, you answered them.

You were a forgiving God to them,^r

but an avenger of their sinful actions.^s

⁹Exalt the Lord our God;

bow in worship at his holy mountain,

for the Lord our God is holy.^t
