For the choir director: according to “The Deer of the Dawn.” A psalm of David.
1 My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?u
Why are you so far from my deliverancev
and from my words of groaning?w
by night, yet I have no rest.x
enthroned on the praises of Israel.y
they trusted, and you rescued them.z
they trusted in you and were not disgraced.aa
6 But I am a worm and not a man,ab
scorned by mankind and despised by people.ac
8 “He relies onE the Lord;
let him save him;
let the LordF rescue him,
since he takes pleasure in him.”ae
making me secure at my mother’s breast.af
10 I was given over to you at birth;G
you have been my God from my mother’s womb.ag
and there’s no one to help.ah
strong ones of Bashan encircle me.a
lions, mauling and roaring.b
14 I am poured out like water,c
and all my bones are disjointed;d
my heart is like wax,
melting within me.e
15 My strength is dried up like baked clay;f
my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.g
You put me into the dust of death.h
16 For dogs have surrounded me;i
a gang of evildoers has closed in on me;
and they cast lots for my clothing.l
19 But you, Lord, don’t be far away.m
My strength, come quickly to help me.n
20 Rescue my life from the sword,o
my only lifeC from the power of these dogs.
21 Save me from the lion’s mouth,p
from the horns of wild oxen.
You answered me!D
I will praise you in the assembly.q
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!r
All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
All you descendants of Israel, revere him!s
the torment of the oppressed.t
He did not hide his face from himu
but listened when he cried to him for help.v
because of you;w
I will fulfill my vows
26 The humble will eat and be satisfied;y
those who seek the Lord will praise him.
May your hearts live forever!z
and turn to the Lord.
All the families of the nations
will bow down before you,aa
he rules the nations.ab
all those who go down to the dust
will kneel before him—
even the one who cannot preserve his life.ac
the next generation will be told about the Lord.ad
to a people yet to be born
they will declare what he has done.ae
About Christian Standard Bible
The Christian Standard Bible (CSB) is a highly trustworthy, faithful translation that is proven to be the optimal blend of accuracy and readability. It’s as literal to the original as possible without sacrificing clarity. The CSB is poised to become the translation that pastors rely on and Bible readers turn to again and again to read and to share with others.
The CSB is an original translation: more than 100 scholars from 17 denominations translated directly from the best available Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic source texts into English. Its source texts are the standard used by scholars and seminaries today.
The CSB is trustworthy: the conservative, evangelical scholars of the CSB affirm the authority of Scripture as the inerrant Word of God and seek the highest level of faithfulness to the original and accuracy in their translation. These scholars and LifeWay, the non-profit ministry that stewards the CSB, also champion the Bible against cultural trends that would compromise its truths.
The CSB is clear: it is as literal a translation of the ancient source texts as possible, but, in the many places throughout Scripture where a word-for-word rendering might obscure the meaning for a modern audience, it uses a more dynamic translation. In all cases, the intent is to convey the original meaning of God’s Word as faithfully and as clearly as possible.
