Proverbs: Annotated & Explained is unavailable, but you can change that!

The biblical Book of Proverbs was compiled in the seventh century BCE and credited to King Solomon. In this fresh translation, Rami Shapiro unpacks the book, writing that its wisdom transcends time and place and instructs readers to live simply, without rationalizations and excuses.

6:23–26 Deeds are lamps, and wisdom the flame that lights them.58 Learn from your mistakes; there is no shame in error. Close your mouth to gossip, and your ear to falsehood. How lovely is desire; do not be tempted by it. How attractive its promise; do not be seduced by its charms. For desire will steal your wisdom and force you to beg for a slice of bread when whole loaves are your due. Your life is precious; do not sacrifice it to evil.
