The Lexham Context Commentary: New Testament surveys each book of the New Testament at several levels—Book, Division, Section, Pericope, Paragraph, and Unit—providing contextually appropriate commentary on each level. The reader of the commentary can easily ascertain the contextual importance of any larger section, or pericope, or even a particular verse of Scripture.

(22:66–23:25) Jesus is officially put on trial at daybreak before the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin ask Jesus whether he is the Christ, and after hearing that he is, decide he must die. The Sanhedrin take Jesus to Pilate to get a death sentence. In order to be certain that he will be executed, they accuse Jesus of sedition. Pilate questions Christ and finds him innocent. Pilate sends Christ to Herod when he discovers that he is a Galilean. Even Herod does not find Jesus guilty of death.
