38. “His word,” or command, about hearing the Prophet, “you have not abiding in you.” They refused to obey. “For whom He hath sent, you believe not.” Far from believing, they rather despised and scornfully rejected Himself, the Prophet referred to “whom God hath sent.” The words of preceding verse, “you have not heard his voice,” etc., are clearly allusive to the passage, “we will not hear His voice nor see His shape.” What you formerly prayed for through fear, from your Father, He granted you. You
