15:1–6 In this chapter, we see for the first time dialogue between the Lord and Abram. The childless Abram is fearful about his future. He thinks that his servant, Eliezer of Damascus, will have to be his surrogate heir (a practice common in the ancient world), but God reassures him that he will in fact have his own children—as many as the stars.
