I. * The words of Amos, awho was among the herdmen of bTekoa, which he saw concerning Israel cin the days of dUzziah king of Judah, and in the days of e* Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two year before fthe earthquake. 2 And he said,

gThe Lord will roar from Zion,

gAnd utter his voice from Jerusalem;

And hthe habitations of the shepherds shall mourn,

And ithe top of jkCarmel shall wither.

3  Thus saith the Lord;

lFor three transgressions of mDamascus,

l* And for four, I will not * turn away the punishment thereof;

oBecause they have threshed jpGilead with qthreshing instruments of iron:

4  rBut I will send a fire into the house of sHazael,

rWhich shall devour the palaces of sBen-hadad.

5  I will break also tthe bar of mDamascus,

And cut off the inhabitant from * uthe plain of uuAven,

And vhim that holdeth the sceptre from * the house of wEden:

And * xthe people of Syria shall go into captivity xunto yKir, saith the Lord.

6  Thus saith the Lord;

lFor three transgressions of zaGaza,

lAnd for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof;

bBecause they * carried away captive the whole captivity,

cTo deliver them up dto Edom:

7  eBut I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza,

eWhich shall devour the palaces thereof:

8  And I will cut off the inhabitant from afAshdod,

And ghim that holdeth the sceptre from ahAshkelon,

And I will iturn mine hand against akEkron:

And blthe remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.

9  Thus saith the Lord;

mFor three transgressions of nTyrus,

mAnd for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof;

oBecause they delivered up the whole captivity dto Edom,

And remembered not * pthe brotherly covenant:

10  eBut I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus,

eWhich shall devour the palaces thereof.

11  Thus saith the Lord;

mFor three transgressions of qrEdom,

mAnd for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof;

qBecause he did pursue shis brother twith the sword,

And * did cast off all pity,

And this anger did tear perpetually,

And he kept his wrath for ever:

12  eBut I will send a fire upon the vTeman,

eWhich shall devour the palaces of wBozrah.

13  Thus saith the Lord;

mFor three transgressions of the children of rxAmmon,

mAnd for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof;

Because ythey have * ript up the women with child at Gilead,

xThat they might enlarge their border:

14  eBut zI will kindle a fire in the wall of aRabbah,

eAnd it shall devour the palaces thereof,

bWith shouting in the day of battle,

With a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:

15  And ctheir king shall go into captivity,

cHe and his princes together, saith the Lord.
