The Lexham Context Commentary: New Testament surveys each book of the New Testament at several levels—Book, Division, Section, Pericope, Paragraph, and Unit—providing contextually appropriate commentary on each level. The reader of the commentary can easily ascertain the contextual importance of any larger section, or pericope, or even a particular verse of Scripture.

(11:19–30) This passage describes the beginnings of the church in Antioch when the scattered believers preach to the Hellenists (11:19–21). The Jerusalem church hears about Antioch and sends Barnabas to teach them; Barnabas sends for Saul, and they contribute to the growth of the Antiochene church (11:22–26). Agabus, a Jerusalem prophet, prophesies in Antioch about a global famine. Consequently, the disciples send relief funds to the Jerusalem elders (11:27–30).
