The Lexham Context Commentary: New Testament surveys each book of the New Testament at several levels—Book, Division, Section, Pericope, Paragraph, and Unit—providing contextually appropriate commentary on each level. (1:15–26) Luke begins with “In those days” (1:15; 2:17), which implies that the Eleven and the others remained in the upper room for a number of days and decided to reconstitute the Twelve. The election of Matthias as Judas Iscariot’s replacement is considered a fulfilment of Pss 69:25 and 109:8 (1:16–20). Judas had been allotted a share in the ministry, and he is replaced through prayer and casting lots, but only after two men are elected based on certain criteria (1:21–26). Matthias
