12. “No man hath seen God at any time.” The connexion of this with the preceding appears to be, no mortal has ever, in this life, seen God “facie ad faciem,” such as he is in himself; and so, has not seen his adorable perfections, which would force men to make a return of love in the most exalted degree; nor has any man the motive of sensible presence and familiarity to excite him to love God, as he has in reference to the love of his neighbour.
