for preaching that ushered him into the presence of God. John Stott noted that we need truth on fire in our pulpits. The Word is the means of encounter with the living God, and the sermon is there to facilitate this encounter. We will be returning to the sermon and the preacher throughout. Note that, flowing from what I have said above, the sermon is aimed primarily, although not exclusively, at the hearts of the congregation.
