(16:7–8). He refused to take warning from the prophet and rushed on to the climax of his earthly confidence. Asa became sick. Here was a greater foe than the Ethiopians, but again he turned to man: “And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians” (16:12). The outcome could not be more sad or sarcastic: “And Asa slept with his fathers” (16:13).
