When it is the Lord’s work in which we rejoice, we need not be afraid of being too glad. Cautious pilots have no desire to try how near the quicksand they can sail, or how often they may touch a rock without springing a leak; their aim is to keep as nearly as possible in the midst of a safe channel. If we indulge in any confidence which is not grounded on the Rock of Ages our confidence is worse than a dream. Self must stand out of the way that there may be room for God to be exalted.
