Moses was born into the tribe of Levi. His parents’ attempt to save him from infanticide led to his being raised in the household of Pharaoh. Moses’ life divides into three parts of 40 years each: • Moses the prince of Egypt (2:1–10) • Moses the shepherd of Midian (2:11–4:17) • Moses the lawgiver of Israel (4:18—Deut. 34:5) 2:11–22 Hebrew hostility sends Moses to Midian. Moses killed an Egyptian who was mistreating a Hebrew slave. When the Israelites responded with hostility toward Moses, he feared
