Atheism does not have a monopoly on the sciences. Although in much of the Western world, more scientists are atheists than otherwise, science is practiced by people of every faith and creed. What atheism rejects are the “happily ever after” stories that religious beliefs often hold. There is no deus ex machina, no god or supreme power who will one day redeem and make whole what we have left broken. If the world is going to be healed, we must step up to the plate.
