In John’s Gospel, Isaiah 6:10 is quoted: ‘He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn—and I would heal them’ (John 12:40). According to John, ‘Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him’ (John 12:41). It was Jesus whom Isaiah encountered in the temple. The God of the Old Testament, so often disparaged and vilified, is none other than Jesus
