They must have pondered on the fact that they had not lifted so much as a little finger to accomplish any of it. Perhaps they remembered David’s words in Psalm 110:5–6: The LORD is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath. He will judge nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth. God’s people in every age are to rejoice in the saving power of God, which is greater than we can ever realize. He saves us without relying on anything we can do. When
