the consent of the volition, or “the consent of the will to the assent of the understanding” (cf. Jn 8:30–31, ASV). Saving faith, therefore, involves active personal trust, a commitment of oneself to the Lord Jesus Christ. But it is not the amount of faith that saves, it is the object of faith that saves. Great faith in the wrong object does not alter man’s lost estate one iota. Little faith (so long as it is faith) in the right object must result in salvation. As an article of religion puts it:
