truth and falsehood. Paul declared, “I am telling the truth … I am not lying” (Rom. 9:1; see also Acts 26:25; 1 Tim. 2:7). “Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth” (Eph. 4:25). And “speaking the truth” (4:15) is in contrast to “deceitful scheming” (4:14). The “liar” does not have “the truth” in him (1 John 2:4; see also 1:6; James 3:14). Truth as opposed to lies is clearly seen in Jesus’ words concerning the devil: “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because
