Angel’s designer, Dupre, came close to losing his head on the guillotine. One stormy April morning poor Dupre found himself in a wagon heading toward the Place de la Concorde. At the guillotine the prisoners ascended the scaffold one by one. After more than a dozen men had gone to their death the sudden storm grew more intense. When it was Dupre’s turn there was a huge flash and a bolt of lightning struck a nearby bell tower, causing people to scatter in all directions. The ceremony by the guillotine
