While “salt” is used to fertilize soil, excess of it on the ground produces sterility (e.g., Deut. 29:23; Judg. 9:45; Jer. 17:6; Zeph. 2:9). B. Verb. halizo (ἁλίζω, 233), akin to A, signifies “to sprinkle” or “to season with salt,” Matt. 5:13; Mark 9:49 (see under A).¶ Cf. SAVOR, B. C.
