one more stunning imperative, one of the most astonishing utterances in all of human history. After Moses had for so long addressed truth to power, now finally, pitifully, power speaks to truth. Pharaoh feebly says to departing Moses, “Bless me, be a blessing to me, bless me as well.” What an utterance! In this utterance, all of worldly power is gathered in a moment of honest vulnerability, presenting itself in its acknowledged need, presenting itself helplessly to the throne of weakness and insignificance.
