They transmit a tradition concerning this in the Gospel entitled ‘According to Thomas’, which states expressly: ‘The one who seeks me will find me in children from seven years of age and onwards. For there, hiding in the fourteenth aeon, I am revealed.’ (Haer. 5.2.20) Not too long after Hippolytus wrote these words, Origen (c. 233 CE) chimes in, mentioning that ‘there is passed down also the Gospel according to Thomas, the Gospel according to Matthias, and many others’.
